SWAP MEET FIND....Ever See One Of These?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by MostlyOldPartsAndRust, May 7, 2013.

  1. Found this in the swap @ Torque Fest this past Saturday. NOS in the box with instructions/template, gasket and hardware.

I did a search here and Google and came up with nuthin'. Anybody ever see one, or have pics of a car with one on?

    Post `em if you do!

Western Auto sold those in the late fifties, along with other period accessories. Rather rare these days.

Pretty neat old accessory. Don't know that I'd actually put it on a car though; sort of the vintage equivalent of today's self-adhesive Buick-style portholes.

Beat me to it. I remember, as a kid, looking at the pages of J.C. Whitney catalog and seeing this type of accessory ad on stuff. Usually, listed under "New & Hot, too New To List". Stu

with or without louvers - how did any true car nut EVER decide? I remember the ads and the catalog pages. Wonder how many they sold. I can thankfully report that I have never seen one actually mounted on a vehicle - seen OTHER crap, but never one of these doohickeys.

I'd make it into an air cleaner.

Ive got one with out the louvers and not in the box.

The guy at torque fest you bought it from had a few of them the year before, but had wanted more money than i thought it was worth, i know the guy that owned the stuff had passed away and the family was selling more of his stuff, maybe the prices came down a bit.

The same vendor had that scoop last year at Torquefest.
They had many old NOS parts, but you had to dig for them.

Thanks ... mounted with supplied screws, and the 55 year old rubber it came with. I still find it incredible that rubber that old is better than 5 year old tires or gas line..

  23. I think the "Gook Wagon" used one of those.
