This is my new project i picked up last week. I pulled it off the trailer this morning and tore it apart today. I am going to clean the frame up and paint it, dropped axle from sid, reverse eyes on the springs and de-arched, 302HO and 5 speed. Here is what i got done today.
If your talking about the Toyota power steering kit they sell I put one in my 58 and I think its great.
Tim, i went with this engine combo for a daily driver. It is going to be a single carbed setup. I got the frame stripped and going to the sand blaster tomorrow. I am thinking I am going to do the CPP power steering and power disc brakes.
Back from the blaster. Going to move the shock mounts and flip the rear hanger tomorrow then its ready to paint and start going together.
3 inch dropped axle from Sids on this one : Your 57 looks like a great truck to start with. Looks pretty solid.
Sense the motor isn't "classic" why not keep it efi? I know the early speed density style isn't great but it will be better for a daily driver.
61, mainly because I didnt get the harness or computer with this engine. And because eventually, I would like to install a 3x2 setup on it.
Got the frame painted. I just need to paint the smaller parts tomorrow. I got the disc brake kit in today and Sid got the front axle dropped Friday and we reversed the eyes on the springs and removed a couple of leafs. I picked up tie rod ends and u-bolts from Sid and my good buddy Tim at Waterloo Auto parts got all the spring and hanger bushings for me. Got the small parts painted today. Going to paint the rear end tomorrow. I hope to have it rolling this weekend.
I got the axles back under the frame today. I moved the front axle 1.5" foward to better center the tire in the wheelwell. Tomorrow, i am going to remove the rear brake backing plates and carrier. I am putting 1976 F150 2.5" wide rear brakes. I am rebuilding the carrier w/ 3.25 gears.
You wont be disappointed with CPP's products. My truck is filled with them. Being in OK you will get them pretty quick. For me.... the turn time was super long... like a couple weeks. Im using there power disk setup, suspension stuff etc, etc.
Great choice for a truck. I have one with original 272 and 3 on the column. The engine runs well, just needs a tuneup. But that is temporary, a 368 Lincoln Y block with dual range hydramatic is going in there sometime in the next 5 years. Power steering and possibly power disc brakes are other additions. Want to put stacks on it, but that will be last. Keep up the good work, going to turn out fine.
Great start! I love my 57' because you don't see any at the local shows. I think yours would look better without that chrome grill so you can just ship it my way! Lol
