Can 57-60 ford front pickup brakes be used on 40s axles or traditional styled drop axles? I've got a couple trucks with them, and was wondering if I could use them on a modified project with a drop axle. Thanks for the help!
i believe the drums are the same as the popular `53-`56 F100 , but the backing plates and hubs are completely different to make it a bolt on to `37-`48 spindles of course , anything can be adapted given enough machine work
I was hoping to be able to utilize the spindles and everything, maybe just bob off the steering arm and put a hoop on top.
The backing plates have a different bolt pattern ... than the 37-41 and 42-48 Ford spindles ... so the backing plates will NOT bolt up. The brake drums are basically the same from 1953 F-100 to 1966 F-100. The hubs use different bearings than the 53-56 F100 or the earlier Ford spindles. To do the swap correctly and like traditionally read this http://www.flatheadv8.org/f1brakes1.htm Randy
?? Use the 53 to 56 backing plates Use the 53 to 56 hubs And the shoes and drums from 53 to 66 I always us the 66 F-100 springs and adjusters because the 66 F-100 has the self adjusting brake feature.
sorry what I said was confusing, but the question was can he use 57-60 brakes because that is what he has. With that article says he will have to get 53-56 parts.
Here's a couple of pics of mine. The self adjusters fit great but there is one mod that's needed. The slot for the adjusting wheel needs to be moved as shown in the pic. Those adjusters are left and right with different part numbers.
