Carb I.D. help

Ok, I've tried finding an answer, but I know you guys can figure it out.. I pulled the carb off my 62 caddy, and it doesn't look like the original Rochester that would have come on the car.. can anyone tell me what application it came ftom, or even a model # to get gaskets/parts for it? Thanks in advance

Both Carter AFB and Rochester 4GC were used. Try this link to help find identification numbers:

I think both of them are stamped on the base flange

 

The Carter is.. 3656s which is for a 1964 Cadillac 429ci.. not my 390

The Rochester isn't stamped.. just says GM and 4 Jet...

The only way to ID the Rochester is by the metal tag, if it has one....
Or compare it to another one....

 

I figured as much.. Maybe you guys can help.. the Rochester that was on the car loooooks like it's the correct one. There is no tag or stamped numbers, but compared to the pic I found on caddy daddy, they look the same, but I can't tell if I'm just missing a few pieces, or if they're two slightly different models

Throttle sizes might help;

 

I can tell from the throttle arm that the Rochester definitely started out on a Chevy. Unfortunately, they all used a triangular I.D. tag under one of the air horn screws, and I swear that there was someone at the end of the assembly line that stood there and snapped them off as the cars left the building. Four bowl vents means that it's no older than 1960, and Chevy quit using them after 1966. It's from either a 283 or 327.

 

After reading Heathen's post, I looked at the throttle arm and agree.

Take a look at the size of the throttle plates of the Rochester vs the Carter. The Rochester is significantly smaller than the Carter. Performance on the Cadillac would not be very good.

I ran the # on the carter and it came back that it's for a 1964 cadillac 429ci, not my 390.. so it looks like 1 is too big and 1 is too small... I'll be on the lookout for the correct obe, or just go with an edlebrock.. seeing as it's pretty much the carter..

The following may be of use if the vehicle is a "driver" as opposed to a "numbers matching":

The original AFB for use on the 1962 Cadillac was 3351s

The service replacement carburetor for the 3351s was 3480s (1963)

The service replacement carburetor for the 3480s was 3903s (1965)

The AFB you have is 3656s (1964)

The service replacement carburetor for the 3656s was 3903s (1965)

So, the factory Cadillac service replacement unit for the carburetor you do not have (3351s) and the carburetor you do have (3656s) is the same!

I would suggest rebuilding the 3656s and using it. It should work well, much better than one of the e-clones; PLUS the linkage, fuel line, and air cleaner should all fit. None of these will fit the e-clone.
