Do you have a spin on filter engine or one of the old canister filter engines? Also, maybe someone put a spin on filter adapter on it. Can't you go by the filter that came off of it? Auto parts guys are not always right..
their wasn't a filter on it when I bought it I just posted a pic of the filter spot I don't know if its the canister kind if it is I don't have the canister =(
The casting number is coming up for a 1967 327. It should use the canister syle filter as 56Don stated. I am using naty z-28.com for the info http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.php
two ideas. I don't have an old block to compare to easily. Either it is missing the canister, or it is an aftermarket adapter, with the threads for a Ford filter. PH5 fram I believe. Sorry, haven't been in a 327 in far too long.
Looks like you have the screw-on type lug on the motor. The OEM filter for that (and pretty much all earlier small blocks, with a screw-on filter) is AC Delco PF-454
http://www.gearheadgeek.com/ghgj/in...l-chevy-data/chevy-small-block-data?showall=1 The 327 cu in (5.4 L) debuted in 1962, turning out as much as 375 hp and increasing horsepower per cubic inch to 1.15. Fitted with its own unique valve cover that featured a flat spot for a decal like "327 Turbo Fire". This design was used until around 1965 and is very popular with collectors today. The 1956-1967, small block Chevys also used a cartridge type oil filter inside a steel canister. In 1968 the small block had a spin on style oil filter. There are adapters available to update the older style blocks to the newer style.
well I tried the ph5 the threads on my motor are a lot smaller then the ones on the screw on style oil filters the oil filters are 3/4 opening and my threads are like 1/2inch

You might want to just take off that setup you have and get one of those adapter kits listed by skidro and then you will know what filter you are using.
Looks like your canister type has been converted to spin-on via an aftermarket adapter. Take the adapter with you to the store and test fit a few filters. Most I've seen use the later Chevy filters, but I have seen a few that use a Ford filter. It's much easier to match if you have the adapter in your hand. my 2¢ .bjb
ford hp -1 or 8 see the area towards the inside ( rubber sealing area ) as with the std chevy rubber gasket is MORE to the outside edge.
The block casting is '64-'67 327. The EB was Chevelle, '65-'67. Horsepower for '65 EB was 300, 275 hp for '66 & '67.
the ford filter will fix your problem---chevy canister filters dont screw into the block, they mount with a long bolt thru the center of the filter
