3 mates from Sydney Australia will be in California for Pomona Swap 2nd June. Hanging around until LA Roadster Show 15-16th June. Looking for suggestions on how to fill in the time between those two events. Open to road trip ideas, other events, shop tours, etc, etc. Let us know what you think. Cheers.
Big Bobs BBQ is on June 1st, definatly try and make that. I went a few years ago when i was in the states and its a great day to experience SoCal car culture and then hit Pomona. There's a thread running at the moment for it. Now go back to the main page and at the top there is the Introduce yourself section, tell us a lil about yourself and folks around here will be a bit happier to offer advice
El Mirage is a couple of hours away from LA. The meet is June 9th. Miss it and youve missed one of the best reasons to visit SoCal.
Go a week earlier and take in West Coast Customs show at Santa Maria. One of the best. Also Long Beach Hi Performance Swap, Donut Derelicts every Sat morning at Long Beach, Anti Donuts just up the road (do a search here for that one), So Cal Open House (think day before LARS) Limeworks, Moon and on and on.... Or plan B, take me with you Cheers Rod
If you are in So Cal by June 2nd the Antique Nationals are an absolute must do - far better than Pomona or get up early since you'll be jet lagged and awake anyway and to a whistle stop to Pomona swap and 30 minutes away you'll find Irwindale.... www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95177
Ink n iron festival is 7th-9th. In long beach at the queen Mary dome. Look at ink iron.com./motoramacarshow. I'm headed there and staying for the roadster show. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Three museums are well worth a visit: Petersen Museum in L.A. Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar Auto Driving Museum in El Segundo Don't miss Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach, Saturday mornings, 6:00 - 9:00AM. Also, don't miss Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake, Fridays late, 4:00PM - 9:00PM (?) Look them all up on your computer. As a general rule, "cruise nights" are hit-or-miss, with much smaller turnouts than all day car shows; usually they are late in the day for three or four hours. Try to stay with the all-day shows. Look up Ink 'n Iron in Long Beach. If it's on while you're here, you might like it (though it's a bit spendy.)
Sacramento Raceway, June 8 and 9. http://www.nccacorvettes.org/vette_magic.html The Sunday has the drags, the day before is car show. Also, the Ford museum in Old Town Sac.
Here's my schedule.. 1. June 02, Antique Drags, Irwindale Raceway 2. June 08-09 Fontana Raceway, SCCA races (road racing) 3. June 15-16, Pomona FairPlex, Fathers Day Roadster Show, swap meet (bring comfortable shoes..!) Have a good time whatever you do... Mike
I was going to suggest these. ALSO, The Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park, San Diego, as well as the Auto Museum in the same park. The San Diego Zoo is pretty cool, for a change of pace. The San Diego boardwalk and Mission Beach are also great for sun and surf. BTW: San Diego is just a nice area to check out with a ton to do, and cleaner and upscale from the majority of the LA area. (go ahead, flame away folks...)
Dont be a bunch of poofs. Go to tijuana and go to strip clubs. Just stay out of bambi's things are not what they seem there.
