I'm putting a set of Fentons with some Smithy's on my 235. I thought about having the pipes ran all the way back under the rear bumper. ...or maybe have them come out right in front of the rear tire? Can't decide? I kind of like the idea of them cut right in front of the rear tire...anyone done this? Have any pictures? How does the exhaust note change?
I personally would favor the back. Just don't care much for the look of coming out before the wheels.....seems unfinished somehow.
I never cared for the extra heat to the rear tires. Related article:http://www.dunntireblog.com/extreme-heat-tire-blowouts I had a tire come apart on my '59 El Camino with side pipes. I always felt they were a factor.
I know loud is good, but when pipes come out in front of the rear wheels, the noise can be such where you can't hear anything else. The earlier posts already mentioned the heat on the rear tires and even more important consideration.
I have fenton headers with dual exhaust and smittys with turnouts before the rear tires. Take a look at a recent photo albumn of mine. I can honestly say this, it sounds and looks cool but is VERY noisy around certain Rpm espically at highway speed. After a long trip, say 2-3 hours my ears just buzzzzz. My 54 has no A/C so the windows pretty much stay down all the time. So next on my spring bucket list is to have the exhaust run out the back.
