Being able to operate a Model T Ford is a core skill for gearheads, like double-clutching or adjusting breaker points. And while the process seems difficult or at least strange, actually it's quite easy and fun. Here's a great little video tutorial. That's pretty neat! Every few years there's a big Model T meet here, probably near 200 cars. Maybe I can talk someone into letting me drive one. Looks le fun.
They periodically give Model T driving lessons at Greenfield Village and you get a ride on a Model T taxi there anytime.
I had to watch a simular video before driving mine. Let me tell you they are fun to drive. This is my car in 2005, bought in 2010.
I have read how to start and drive the T, but watching that well done video was much more informative.
If anything it's even easier than it looks in the video -- you just need to do it a few times. IMO, this was a big part of the Model T's original appeal. This was before synchro gearboxes.
I see that the headlights are working... mine I had to check with a flashlight to see if they were on at night!!!
My father in law ended up with one at an auction several years ago. After the guy started to show him how to start it and drive it, my father in law paid him to take it back. LOL
Heard from the maker of the video from all the way over in Australia, and from the man in the USA who sold him the car. The web makes the world very small sometimes.
Model T's are fun to put around town in. You can only run a stock one at about 35-40. If you have a good tail wind 45. I've got an all original 27 roadster pickup. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
My dad (age 82) put the killer tuneup on ours. At ~45 mph it's more of a rush than a Corvette at 185 mph. Whew!
The young man who did this great video also has a website devoted to the Model T Ford. Here's more... http://www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/2013/05/03/great-model-t-ford-website-check-it-out/ .
