I have a set of Canadian heads with the numbers 3731554HC on them. I can find the number listed as 2 barrel heads, but what does the HC mean? Could they be a Canadian power pack head?

Does anyone have pictures of the casting marks on 57 chevy power pack heads?

I have some 1816887 heads for 283. I've been told (on here) they are Canadian power pack heads. But there could be more than one variant I guess

Seems to me the Canadian Power Pack heads had a small single hump instead of the triangle. Can't help with the HC. Butch/56sedandelivery.

They have a rectangle with a single hump on them (not a triangle).

    I was right! That's a switch for a change. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Always wanted a pair of those, and being that B.C., Canada is't that far away from me, I'm still hoping. They also say CANADA cast in between the valve springs. I'd like to find a pair of the CANADIAN Pontiac (SBC) valve covers also.

I will try to post some pictures. I have a really nice set of the Pontiac valve covers that will be covering these heads. It is strange that they have the same part number (except for the HC) as the US low compression heads.

Here are the heads. Do the look like power packs?

  12. Nope, the chambers look like the US low compression heads.

Duke, the heads in your photos came on 210 HP, 327 engines in around 65-67. They had a small 2G carb. They were mostly used in the lighter weight chevys. Compression ratio is about 8.4 on the 327 with flat top pistons..

Someone sent me a PM about a set of these heads he had, but I begged off. Well, I've thought about it, and reconsidered; send me another PM as I deleted the earlier one. Thanks, Butch/56sedandelivery.

1957 chev 283 2 barrel carb heads. I also have a pair. There was also another set of 283 2bc heads with a double bump in 57. The heads were cast and built at McKinnon Industries .

    Pic attached.

I'm off to a Flea Market this weekend. Do you want me to look for them ? What are they for ? A Chevrolet or a Pontiac ?

With the offset valve cover screws, I don't think they are off of any 327 Single bump would say 327 but the offset screws say pre '59 283

52 ragtop, you are correct, I missed the offset valve cover bolts, never on a 327. My bad, CJS

At least in the U.S., '57 power pack heads have a casting number ending in 539.

I will keep my eye out for a set of the powerpacks for a 283.
    Thanks guys

  23. Shouldn't be too hard to find- they show up regularly at our (Brad54's) local swap meet.

If you DO have trouble, let me know and we'll grab a set for you.

Bob, can you post the casting # off that head please. Just had a conversation with a club member about DBL Hump 283 Heads that had 1.7 approx size Int. Valve. I said never heard of such a set. The hump on your pic. clearly differs from the 327 1.94 and 2.02.

Are you building an original 57 Chevy ? If not the 520's are a better casting 283 head. Mid 60s.
