mopar Big block 383

    I am looking to put a 383 Big block in My Desoto coupe
    Need sugesstions on what to do with the Steering

    How did you get around this?
    Keep in Mind I am a purist I like Mopar
    No Mustang 2 or chev Front ends.

    You might have to swap in a rack and pinion setup. No idea which one will work in your 'Soto, though.

    I have a 1953 desoto that I put a big block 400 mopar in and I kept all the original steering components. I had to use a truck style oil pan so the sump was in the back and then it cleared the steering arm in the front crossmember. I also had to use center dump exhaust manifolds to clear the steering box.. Other then that, it fit just great!

    That's info is what I needed.
    I going to hang the motor and Trans next week and see how they fit
    Milner What did you do Fro Motor Mounts
    I was thinking of Just using stock Mounts

    I also used stock big block mounts and welded them to the frame. I don't know about yours as it is older but I had to set the motor a lot further down in between the frame rails in order to get the motor and tranny to sit somewhat level. Everything actually worked out really well for what I had to work with. If you have an questions about where the motor is sitting. I did post a build thread if that should have pictures of the mounts and how far down I went. Just go to my profile and check it out! Let me know if you have any more question, I'm happy to help

  10. A buddy of mine used a Volare' front suspension on his 1946 Dodge coupe......
