Great to see ANZAC Dawn parade attendances growing as the younger generation try to find out more about their grandparents & great grandparents who served. I always remember my grandmother telling me about my grandfather turning up at his parents home early in the Great War when he should have been at sea (he was 15 !!). He didn't say much but 3 days later they found out he was on a battleship HMS King George which had been sunk. Very hard to comprehend going through that sort of experience at that age. My brother works for the Defence department dealing with veterans and war pensions etc and he says that some of the stories he has heard are incredible. He's currently at Gallipoli for the ANZAC service there, escorting veterans. "Lest we forget" A big thank you to all who have served and who currently serve, no matter where or for whom. JR
A very special day for all Australians and new Zealanders. It was the forging of our national identity, in a land far from our sunny shores, and it deserves all the respect it gets, and more. Less we forget. Cheers, Glen.
Yep DITTO fellas , I used always love to hear my uncles (2 of them ) " WAR stories" , some tragic some funny !! they are both gone now , but they did the march for many years in Bendigo and Melbourne , we are very proud of them and ALL the diggers of ALL ages and conflicts !
While serving in VietNam,I met a bunch of Aussies, and they were all good guys. I still remember their ship with a giant green kangaroo painted on the bow. Thanks guys!
I just returned from a vacation in Australia. I was very impressed with the pride Australians have in their country. Carps, thanks for posting this. Mick
