I'm looking to replace my gas tank. Every time I fill the tank up the cab smells awful for a couple of hours. Does anyone know the best place to move the tank to so this can be avoided.

    Thanks for the help

I'm sitting on it. Makes me feel a bit uneasy. Thanks for the info.

Look for an underbed style tank. Almost every major parts supplier for 47-54 trucks sells them.

They are tailored to fit the frame rail curvature and bolt right in.

Youll have to fill the hole in your cab though.

You realize the tank is under the rear seat in modern cars, right? Lift the seat cushion and you'll see the fuel pump cover and wires.

I replaced the in cab tank in my '51 3100 with a new Spectra Premium Ni-Tern tank and new filler hoses for under $150. Haven't smelled gas since.
