More Warbirds in the Phoenix Area in April

At work we designed a remodel/addition to Doolittle's house! It was cool, the current owner had some old pics in the basement den.

 

I went today to Glendale muni airport. Will try to post some pics tomorrow. Only the P-51 and B-17 was there. The B-24 was coming later do to mechanical. The Me-262 was also not there due to mechanical. Talked to some WW2 pilots. What a tough bunch of guys.

 

Seems like there was a take off accident with the Me262 today at Midland. Nothing serious for the crew or the aircraft, mercifully.

Edit: Lost the rear canopy, with minor damage.

If only my old man was still around to see the 262 - die Schwable (sp?) (Sparrow). He told me the story of being out in a potato field in southeastern Germany in the summer/fall of 1943 near a Luftwaffe airfield used for testing - heard a strange noise coming at him, looked up and there was a plane flying with no propellers! Fast forward to the winter of 1944-1945 in central Germany and he was filling in bomb craters in runways for 262s when they weren't being carpet-bombed by B26s or strafed by P51s. Needless to say he didn't elaborate on that part of his life story.
