low enough to get in and out of driveway without dragging frame and oil pan. not so low that you ride gets stuck in the middle on a parking lot speed bump, etc
It was meant to be a rhetorical question. I was expecting someone to ask if I was getting a nosebleed driving it at stock height. I cut one coil on my Impala SS back in '65, it looked right and went everywhere. I guess it went down about 2 1/2". the lowest point is the front of the moffle (we're pretty close to Tijuana here so some Spanish rubs off) at 7". I guess I can go lower if it aint right.
Why not bag it ? You really don't have to do major modifications, if that's what your worried about. And you can have the low with a good ride and if it's to low raise 'er up
He nailed it. It's real embarrassing to have to tell the two gals that you and your buddy picked up while out cruising around that they will have to get out so you can get unstuck from the speed bump in the parking lot. At least it was for me about 50 years ago.
"Bags go way back" That is correct. Using bags to achieve a broken looking mini truck stance with your frame laying on the ground does not "go way back"
Sorry for getting off topic for the thread, but this whole air bag thing on a TRADITIONAL FORUM has been bugging me. I think you should drop it 3-4 inches to give it a level stance. Then throw some astro supremes and skinny whites on it. then CRUISE
i vote for 2 pumps, but if not keep lowering till it just barely scrapes and youll be close. oh an if the oil pan sits lower than the crossmember please raise it a touch! matt
I had a 63 bel air and lowered it 3" all around (w/ lowering springs from Ecklers). Looked great, drove great.
Have the lower control arm stepped 2". Cut one wrap (2") front is done. Rear coils can be trimmed at both ends for a full wrap or 1 1/2, 1 3/4 wrap drop to attain a slight forward rake. A rear sway bar may be modern, but you will love the dramatic change in handling.
more the reason for the air ride you can add bags to lower a vehicle and not cut it up to have a "broken mini truck stance". it doesnt have to hop or drag frame, throwing sparks everywhere either. its a easy way to have the best of both worlds. traditional or not its preference well in that case, low enough were you have to be careful getting in and out of your drive way
Does California still have a lowering law? If they do, don't go lower than allowed because they will bust you.
Study a bit of history from over fifty years ago: http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=Ala_Kart "The suspension system is all made up of 4 coil springs with adjustable air bags."
Here's the definition of "tradition" http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/tradition The ALA Cart had air bags but it wasn't a common method of lowering cars in 1958 as it is today. What's in common use, in popular use is what defines tradition and tradition is the continuity of that common, popular use. peace
