Over the years most of my money has been spent on women, whiskey, and fast cars. The rest I wasted.

For me, if it's not antique cars it's antique guns. I like stuff that makes noise!

I like to pig hunt. It's a lot of work. But it's fun. It's not anything like that American hoggers show. It can get pretty rough and nasty.[IMG]

I'm in the process of building a wa'apa. It's a Gary Dierking designed outrigger sailing canoe. I really like being on the water but never manage to get out there.

The past couple years its been antique snowmobiles, as well as firearms (mostly vintage ones).

Last winter did a restoration on a 1970 Alouette... Guess it's a little past the '64 HAMB cut-off but I don't think a couple pictures can hurt:

The most time consuming hobby I have other than my cars is engineering and building Sierra Madre's Rose Parade floats for the last 13 years. We start on each one a couple weeks after the previous Rose Parade, and work on'em the whole year.

Here're our two most ambitious floats, both Charles Meiers designs ......

    Bollywood Dreams,
    [IMG]

    and Suenos de California.

One of my own concepts (final design by Charlie again), California Girls,
    [IMG]

and my personal favorite (another Charlie design of course), Valentine's Day.

    Here're a couple video links ......
One of Bollywood on display back in Sierra Madre after the parade,

one of California Girls during final judging in the park by where we build'em,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjjISF_s26w&feature=youtu.be

and one of our award winners since '06 (I took over as head of construction in '05, and Charlie started designing our floats in '06).

    Enjoy.

What are those things based on?

When I was at university the typical annual rag float was based on someone's farmer or builder dad's two-ton truck, with the result that all the floats had these tall, sheer sides one had to fill somehow, and were so tall that nobody could see what was going on on top. Every year I had the same idea of building a few dedicated float chassis that I could rent out for the rag. I had all kinds of ideas involving multiple axles, Mini 5.00x10 tyres, and eccentric drive trains, all in an effort to get as great an area as low as possible. I invariably forgot all about it the day after the parade.

The chassis' are custom made using primarily truck drivelines (with a few hydro-drive set-ups).
Sierra Madre's is a truck driveline set-up made of rectangular tube, in a 4"x14"x1/4" backbone ladder with a 3"x 8"x1/4" exo-frame for mounting peripheral systems and the superstructure.

Here's a long shot with the castered extension on the front this time.
There's no suspension, you don't want springs under a 30' tall piece of mobile equipment. ;)

Other than working on the HA/GR project, last year I started building three string, fretless Cigar Box Guitars. Still trying to learn how to play the things, (that's me looking like I know what I'm doing in the 2nd picture). Just started on build # 14 after a little over a year into the hobby and having a ball with it on a budget. Had a few good musicians play my builds and they sound great doing slide blues.

Scale model tanks, not sure why but really enjoy building them.

No sails up in this photo but I try to spend time on my sailboat in the summer.

That was taken by a friend from his boat while returning from Port Townsend a few years ago.

Some people know me more for my sunset photos rather than my car activities or my boat activities.

An offshoot of the sailboating and hanging out with a bunch of would be pirates is that I build my own black powder cannons that use 12 gage blackpowder blanks for lots of noise and smoke.

    Two that I haven't finished.

I let another guy fire mine so I could take a video, one of my friends was next to me commenting on his video.

I must be crazy but I like to get up on stage and sing. My wife took this video of me singing "Stray Cat Strut", I think this was the second time I sang it in public. It may sound strange but I find it releases some of that tension built up working all week.

I also like to fool around with my tractors. My WD45 had the engine locked up a couple of years ago. I messed with it all winter that year and it's been running pretty good every since. I should put a new set of points in it though.
