    photo 10616 looks like Mike Hanigan and Dick Mello from Antioch Cal. with Yosemite's Half Dome in the back ground. Is It?

    i remember when i was a newby, i started reading this thread after there were only a few hundred pages, it was hard to catch up then, i cannot imagine goin back to the beginning again,, wow,, just too much good stuff:cool:

    Just wondering why people who insist on writing on the front of photographs do so with the worse hand writing ever.

    You got that right JVD, most photos that I have seen have a reverse side as well and you can still buy pencils I'm pretty sure :)
     


  7. Sometimes the written word can be as - or more - interesting, especially if they add depth or correctness to the photos. Many of us may not have lived the life depicted in some pictures; explanations or testimonials from those who have can add a lot of flavor to what may be 'just another picture'.

    This happened post surrender of Germany in WWI, the submarine a type UE-II. After the sub had surrendered it was taken in tow by a British ship. While traversing the English Channel they were struck by severe storm, during which the tow parted setting U-118 adrift and unmanned.
    This same storm blew the sub up onto Hastings beach during the night.
