Anyone still running a Y block with the aerostar springs?,my 55 will be going back to a Y block and will need to replace the shortened springs I have in it now since they were designed for a 351-W and C-4.

    Oh, forgot to add another..
I've got them in my 50 Ford as well.

Perfect ride, perfect stance... perfect suggestion in the first place. You've saved me a lot of money over the last few years and made driving a whole lot more enjoyable.

Thank you for posting this back in 2008 Fairlane Dave!

Has anybody tried the aerostar springs on a 57 ford with dropped spindles?

I grabbed 3 S10 4 Cylinder Springs and the Aerostar and built a chart to compare any Moog Spring to others.

I put in a Wheel Load of 900 pounds and aa motion ratio of .53 (Gen 2 Camaro)for direct comparing springs.

The compare height is the difference at the fenderwell (spring ht / motion ratio.

BTW, I've searched all Moogs and that's only spring that size and rate in the ballpark, good job.

    Here is my spreadsheet loaded with all Moog Springs;

    You can view it here

Under the file option you can download a copy.

Hoop98, interesting info you've provided, thank you. I have the Moog CC850 is my '51 Merc now, along with dropped uprights. I'd like to find a coil spring that is approximately stock height, to raise my front end just a little bit. It appears that a Moog 5662 is a similar spring, but about 2 inches longer installed height. Am I reading this correctly?

The 5662 would sit about 3.6 higher.

I would try the 5658 and cut off 1/2 a coil, that would stiffen that up close to the CC850 and be in the 2 inch higher range.

Remember because you have almost a 2-1 leverage from spring location an inch taller spring at the same load would raise the car near 2 inches.

Instead of chopping the coil and changing it's tension you can get different thicknesses of spring seat pads from Energy Suspension.

A 1 inch thicker seat pad would raise the car 1.8 inches, same rate.

The 5660 is roughly the same spring rate as the CC850 the 5568 is 75 pounds/in softer.

Since we have a Tangential End we can safely cut the spring on that end.

I have "cut" the springs for you here using Hookes Law.

Remember we are cutting the "Height" not the length.

So as pictured above, we are raising the car by either 1.5 (5658) or 2.2 (5660)

If you want to know your motion ratio here is an easy way.

Put a tie wrap around the shock rod.

Bounce the car a couple of times then measure the fenderwell height.

Push the tie wrap down to the bottom of the shock rod.

Get 2 people to sit on the fender (gently)and remeasure.

Measure how much the tie wrap moved.

Divide that by how much the fender moved and that's your motion ratio.

The one I used above is from a Camaro and should be close enough for government work.

64 Galaxie? probably too low, see here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=692390&highlight=lowering+galaxie

Combining the knowledge in that thread with this one, it looks as if the taller S-10 springs might work on a Galaxie. I searched on the HAMB and couldn't find anyone who has tried it, if I had a Galaxie I would give it a shot. I get to drive my mom's 64 Galaxie when I visit home, but I don't think the old man will let me lower it for her ;)

Here is a picture of my 59 Edsel that I just finished up with the aerostar springs. I originally had bought 2 inch drop spings. I installed them and wasn't satisfied with the look. So I pulled them and installed the aerostars! I wish I would've found out about this before I bought the 2 inch drop springs! [IMG]

I just picked up my coils and 2" blocks for my 58 edsel Pacer. Can't wait to install and see how it looks.

Picked some up for my 57. Having a hell of a time getting the old springs out though. Should just have to drop the lower control arm correct? Anyone have like a picture guide of how to do it? Would really appreciate it.

Ya I would imagine that's all you have to do. Is the spring stuck to the control arm? Or is the arm just not dropping enough to get it out?

Sometimes you have to just pry the spring out as the last coil will be hung up on the lower control arm.

Who here has done them with the Granada Spindles and the aerostar springs?

I have the spindles, but havent installed them, but i have heard that they drop the car as much at 1.5 inches just with the spindles, so im worried that the car will be too low with both.

This is in the 57-59 Ford, i will be using them in a 58 Edsel wagon though.
