1930 Model A build........................ Looking for IDEAS of where to put the BALLAST RESISTOR. I DO NOT want it on the FIREWALL............ Thanks, Mike
Depending on what resistance your coil requires, Echlin and Standard still sell replacement resistance wires for a variety of applications...on most of the cars produced in the last 15 years or so of point ignition the resistor was this special wire rather than a separate resistor unit, and of couse it would just replace the normal feed wire to the coil.
Be careful where you hide it because they can get smoking hot at times or you can just use an internally resisted coil.
I used the resistance wire method in my 39. Been on for 20 years now. I pirated mine out of an old 60's wiring harness. As Bruce said, you can still buy them if you ana find a parts guy who will look it up. Also available on that auction site.
