The "Wings of Freedom Tour" will be hitting the Phoenix area in mid April. There are some awsome WWII aircraft on this tour. Here is the list:

    B-17G Flying Fortress (bomber)

    B-24J Liberator (bomber)

    P-51C Mustang (fighter)

Me-262 (German jet fighter) Whoa Nelly!

    The schedule is as follows:

    Scottsdale Airport 4/12 - 4/14

    Deer Valley Airport 4/14 -4/17

    Glendale Airport 4/17 - 4/19

It's definateley worth it to come out and see these historic and just plain bitchin' machines!

I saw a couple of them fly over my house the other week (I live just south of DV airport) after seeing you guys post about this in another thread. Super awesome!

Too bad they won't go to Falcon Field and hang out with the Commemorative Air wing planes. That would be real neat. I would probably go to see them.

They were here in Dallas over the weekend at the museum at Love Field. Good display inside and the warbirds outside. John Luckadoo, who was a B17 co-pilot in WWII gave a short talk. He and my uncle went through flight training together. Both were assigned to the 100th Bomb Group. Flew out of Thorpe Abbotts in England. My uncles plane was one of three that was shot down in the North Sea June 25, 1943 on the first bomb run the 100th made after being assigned to Europe. He did not make it, listed as KIA.

Sweet! Glad I stumbled on your post, Mike... I'd love to get out there and see these planes, ESPECIALLY the 262!

Love the 262-looks like a shark.

  11. Saw this pair at a show near here in 2011 - both belong to the Messerschmitt Foundation. Something I never thought I´d see in my lifetime!

I saw these planes a couple of years back up in Worcester Ma.( minus the 262) and was able to walk through the bombers. Wicked cool and awe inspiring.

On another note for those guys into this stuff, I just finished a great book on a pair of WW 2 pilots. One German fighter pilot( Me-109's & later Me 262's) and a B-17 pilot. It's "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos.

We have the Watsonville fly in planes go by here. The sound of the RR Merlin in the P51 as it goes by is too cool for words.

Back in 1999 I was renovating the heating in a Paine Field building; one of the tenants was an A&P who was helping reproduce the 262's. When they got an original war-booty 262 up from California from the Navy on loan to copy it still had the 30mm ammo loaded...

They're here! The B-24, B-17 and the P-51C have arrived, plus some vintage military vehicles.

    Awaiting arrival of the ME-262.

    Yee Haw!

The ME-262 is delayed in Scottsdale with a mechanical problem. Hopefully it will get sorted out and the aircraft will be here today.

The word I got is that the ME-262 will be heading back to it's base in Washington state for repairs.

The other three aircraft will be here at Deer Valley today and will be moving on to Glendale tomorrow.

No ME-262, Rats! The other three (B-17, B-24, P-51C) are still more than worthy of coming out to see.

It was probably one from this group. Their previous stop was Santa Fe.

  30. I was reading about these Me 262 replicas, and they made a point about the number of modifications that Messerschmitt have had to carry out on their own aircraft - over 100 different items - since they took delivery of it. The article said that people forget that these things were really rushed into production in the middle of the war and nobody had a chance to work the bugs out of them in the short time they were in service. They were little more than prototypes.
