is the flate head V8 out of a 53 F100 a good platform to build up ? Ive been wanting one for awhile , and I`m not to savy on witch one are better that others .? needs to have hop up parts available for it !!
A lot of guys like the looks of the radiator hoses exiting at the center of the heads on the 48 and earlier heads rather than at the front with the 49/53 heads. My flathead for my Model A is of the 49/53 variety because it's what I found in good shape at the time. Guys tend to like the earlier engines for A V8 swaps because they fit slightly better in the Model A with less modifications that are part of using the later flatheads.
That's a great engine to start with! Before you buy, make SURE it turns over by hand or (even better) runs! Don't just take their word for it! It will significantly increase the costs of your flathead build if it doesn't.
Mr Chevy, you CAN run the "early" (pre 49) heads on an 8BA block. I have pics of which water passage to plug for doing this, if anyone needs them. My 8BA is in a 40 pickup, and i wanted it to "look right". 4TTRUK
Not only the heads but you can use the 48-52 water pumps to get the wide belts and ears to use biscuit mounts.
