I sold my 64 Chevy Pick Up and got this 1957 210 Townsman 4door 327,and a 4 speed. Iwas thinking mabe choping it in to an El Camino type of car are there any plans or guide lines out there that I can read up on or any suggestions Thanks
Only suggestion would be don't do it. If you have to ask, and don't have your own plan, then leave it alone. Pick up a clapped out body if you really want to try this.
I know you didn't ask opinions, but I'd leave it a wagon. Sell it and buy an el camino if that's what you want... Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
as others have said, It's YOUR name on the title. A 4-door chop is incredibly hard (or expensive) to get right.
Might be something on these: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=412073&highlight=nomad+elcamino http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=446403&showall=1
He wasn't looking to Chop the 4 door - he is looking into making it a ElCamino And I Hope this is just a "PRANK" by him
leave that wagon as is if you want a camino i have one in my albums ill trade you and then some , the 57 looks likea great car , dont waste it , just my 2 cents
He's only posted three times since he joined in 2009 so we will probably never see the carnage anyways... Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Actually, there are alot of "idiots" that really do this, even with other year cars. Maybe not with 4 doors, but Check this link for pics- http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...2.563.7j1.8.0...0.0...1ac.1.8.img.f1ry9PwyzFk
The ones I've seen done in the past started as two door wagons, I think having four doors would be a real challenge to make right. None of them look "right" anyway. From an El Camino owner.
i would shorten it up! always like the stubbie wagons no difference in cutting this up than a old ford or anything you make a custom out of. elkie would be cool but hard to get the back window area right. take some photos and cut them up before you cut on the real thing the go for it.....Dave
Hey guys & gals, Anyone eles interested, I have the detailed plans to execute this Build. $650.00 m.o. only 1 st requirement is find a really nice '57 Wagon 2nd The work must be performed outside, No Garage Builds, Please. That way The Pics will turn out better for Thread Posts. 3rd Prefer work done in Colder Climate area, Or/ Rainy section of Country. pm Me if Interested c/o Hellavagoodscam.com 04/01/12
I personally don't think any of the '57 Chevys turned into El Caminos look very good, most of them have a back window that leans forward which doesn't look right with the tailfins leaning rearward. Turning it into a 2 dr. wagon would be a better idea in my opinion.
I dont have any plans, but I say do it. Find a pair of twodoor doors, bring back of the, roof forward & do a bunch of finish work.
Saw some on that link an thats what started the el camino idea. Yes my name is on the title. I see lots of 4 doors and they all look the same only the color has changed. did i mention its a 4 door. I would not cut up a Nomad or a handy man 2 door. And for the ones keeping count now my 4th post
Done a few car-to-truck chop jobs, never had one turn out any good. Too shakey without the roof. They are always rattletraps. Leave it a wagon, buy a Camino.....
I'm thinking you'd be better off making a C-1 Vette pickup. Fiberglass is easy to work with, older Corvettes don't really hold their value, and you'd be able to haul a lot of the manure that's related to your original idea. dj
Although I have done several,so that makes me an idiot -I see.... I personally think this is a pretty darned nice car and should be enjoyed as it sets, and am recommending that you get a rougher project type body and do it on it instead......just makes money sense.
