Got the new tires n tims installed by Kenny at Plum Creek Auto this morning.

What a difference in how the old girl looks!
    uploadfromtaptalk1364933002058.jpg
Then we spent 2 hours trying to find a fkn shop to do a front end alignment!
Big O's new computetized, whiz-bang unit doesnt have specs that go back past 1984. WTF?
Midas' unit wont fit the rear wheels without crashing the wheel opening. Really?
Finally, Rick at Napa told to go right next door & talk to Charlie at Castle Rock Auto. 3rd time was a charm!

No problem here, these guys dig old school stuff!

Now this is my kind of adventure... I demand that you put the white letters in. Short of that, I demand a pictorial as all of this goes down!

In the 60's everybody wanted them out, but we can discuss it over a beer this weekend. I'll buy the 1st round, Ryan.

Yep just had that conversation on letters out or not on my O/T 76 Ford Pick Up with the tire installer.
Lost in the 70's I had to have em out :)

Got a bit of concern with the car over 60mph, there's a vibration shakin thru everything. 65-70mph is kind of disconcerting. Gonna be a long, tiring trip south if I can't figure it out quickly.

Think it's related to these unilug style rims. Since I have little time, I had Jegs ship a set of Cragars for Thurs delivery to my stop off point in Arlington. I'll figure out how to pay the cc bill later.

On the upside I scored a pair of Model A truck doors for F6garagerat! Better tin than we find in MI & cheaper too. Found out over dinner that Art had em in his storage shed. How friggin cool is that? Scotty's going to be pretty excited when I get back.

Leaving at 0-too-early in the am & I fkn HATE mornings...

Thx everybody for the good wishes!

Judith sewed up a ceremonial "crying towel" to impart good luck for the trip.

  12. Perfect, this will be awesome!
    GodSpeed,
    Thanks for sharing the adventure.
Look forward to seeing it in person this weekend!

  13. Oh too early... Yeah, here I am in a boring global meeting at 6 am in Detroit... The only way you do mornings well is when we find ourselves no so steadily holding one of those low stout tumblers with a couple of fingers of scotch or bourbon - solving all the problems we face and realizing that it is morning now... often way past midnight. The lesson here is "waking up" to morning is less desirable to arriving to it wide awake and buzzed at midnight... but I digress...
Have a safe trip. Let me know If I need to bring your truck and my trailer... we won't get into my truck here... It sounds like all kinds of folks have worked to make this go well. I love it and can't wait to stripe it... Does the heat work? its still darn cold up here... just sayin..

  14. BTW - LOW and SLOW - you are speed limited by suspension, I was speed limited in my 61 bubble top back in 1977 by a cast iron powerglide that bumped into neutral at 70mph.
probably a good thing, that was my first car and a rusty POS it was... be careful and have a great trip.

Thx for the reminder, but I'm speed limited by the 65mph shakes, which I think is from the unilug rims.
New rims being sent to Arlington & will get them mounted there on Thurs.

  25. So, is car and all on it's side or is it the way you look at everything?

Well, for safety's sake set that radio to one of the CONELRAD marks - just in case the Ruskies get us!

Sounds like a whole lot of awesome!
