sorry if this appeared before, but a few search attempts came up empty. "There hasn't been a car built that can't be improved by a set of black steel wheels" http://blacksteelies.com/ http://blacksteelies.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/1962_Pontiac_Catalina_002_2189.jpg http://blacksteelies.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/SC0510-90001_3.jpg http://blacksteelies.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/000-Saab-Roger-Albert-Clark-1024x682.jpg
Not my universal opinion, either. Just quoting what the website said. Posted it mostly because there were some pictures I liked. Not a single 18 inch chrome wheel in sight.
You had to take off the hubcaps or wheel covers when going racing. It was not a choice to be cool but a rule at the strip. Most guys were very quick to put them back on when leaving the Strip
Heres a couple shots of my 36. I love the black steelie look, but gotta say I still have a set of red wheels with bias wide whites that I switch back and forth. Gary
When I bought my 51 Merc in 1963 I painted the wheels black with a brush and a can of black enamel that was about the size of a can of One Shot that came from Western auto. One of the guys I ran around with (who later became chief of police in our home town) would use his dad's white 60 Dodge Sedan on Friday nights and he would run it around the corner from his folks house and pop the hubcaps off and crank the torsion bars up or down a couple of turns depending on the mood he was in. That was until he got caught cruising the Ave with it cranked down about two and a half turns one night when his folks went out to dinner with friends . He would respray the rims about once a month when he washed and cleaned up the car so the wheels were shiny black under the plane hubcaps.
I was going to paint my Ts wheels dark red but since it dates back as a rod to the late 40s i wanted an older look, so black they are.Sure not for everyone but in my opinion it just works. Now i just need to tone down the motor !! JW
My buddy is doing a 64 Galaxie fastback up that I sold him. I,m trying to talk him into a moonshiner hauler style black with black wheels and pinner whites.
That is a good look. Love the Poncho that's different than the norm and it looks great. The steel wheel is a great look on any car, I agree but there's more to it than that.
WOW, that might be the strangest first post I have ever seen. Join a forum and come on to say you dislike forums. ODD
hotroddon, its how i got it and i look over it but when the car is done a new glass will be fiffed. JW
