What is the most prefered method of flaking? Suspend in clear or blow it on dry. What are the pros and cons of both methods?

What size tips are needed for suspension?

  2. I always suspend it in clear.
Any time I have tried dry flake, it has resulted in
flake everywhere except the surface I wanted it on.

With dry I did my roof in small flake and it was a terrible!!! It was more like metallic! It you use bigger flake you might be fine.

Yea, I tried dry on a dash, my impression is that all the flake lays flat and isn't as dimensional as it should be....

I did the interior of my 48f1 in Roth Monster flake. Blew it on with the flake buster. Did an excellent job and it looks exactly the way I imagined it but the flake did get every where in the shop and with the Monster flake you have to burry it in a crap load of clear. If i remember right we sprayed 8 coats of clear on the dash and 6 on the doors and jams.

so, a dumb question: If you use a gravity feed HVLP wont all the flake sink down into the gun and plug it?

i threw a couple nuts in the can.. and "shake and spray"! My buddy mixed me some "binder" which was paint with no color pigment.. that way you could spray more coats without building up too many layers of clear spraying the flake.. then AGAIN when you clear over the flake. Worked great on my roof and dash.. good luck!
