Can't wait to check them out. I'm glad to see RJ do the reprints because I know they will be done right. Thanks for doing the books.

Eagerly anticipating the arrival of my two box sets!
It has been quite some time since first ordered due to some additional material. But, this makes the wait all the worthwhile.

...unfortunately due to our New World global economy, they will most likely be printed in Hong Kong. And I wonder if their socialistic censorship even allows them to read 'em? I know nothing of China, it's just a place we send our resources.
    me... Ah so:D

Ah, ya Spooky Two.... Hong Kong is part of China but being run as a seperate free market economy if that makes you feel any better... And it's people can come and go as they wish, and read and see what they wish.

Sorry for the political rundown there, just have a house full of wacky Hong Kong originated females yelling at each other this week.

I am lucky enough to have a fairly complete batch of the originals in my collection, so I'm curious to see what the reprints look and feel like.

  6. Thanks for the post Ryan...just ordered my set!

  7. Sweet! I ordered up mine a while back...kind of forgot about it :D

Ordered a couple of box-sets awhile back too.

I hope when I get 'em, it's a long rainy day. I'll light the fireplace and just sit and peruse every page....can't wait.

  10. I bought an original '51 edition last month great custom material and worth buying the complete TRJ Dan Post box set, I will end up buying a set of those too!

Is this the same Dan Post that wrote Model T Ford in Speed and Sport back in 1956?

    Hi Gang...

This was an outgrowth of the research we started back around 2007 and resulted in an article with Rodder's Journal by Harold Pace and myself reviewing the history and breadth of Dan Post and his publications across the automotive industry.

It took a while but with help we located Gertrude Post - Dan's wife - and his son Dan Jr. With their help we collected all of the works of Dan Post Sr from 1944 thru 1955. In addition, we located three former Dan Post employees and all of them contributed to our article. After 1955 Dan Post expanded considerably but not into the custom car realm again. We shared what we learned at the time with good friend Rik Hoving and other Custom Car guys who could share the information with everyone too.

At the printing of the article by Rodder's Journal, we donated the full set of materials - the only known full set in existance - to Steve Coonan and Geoff Miles of Rodder's Journal with the hope that they would make them available to everyone in the hobby. With the printing of these materials our hope has been realized and on behalf of Harold Pace, the Dan Post family, and myself we hope that all of you enjoy the materials as much as we have these past many years.

    Best Regards,

    Geoff Hacker

I remember that as many magazines as my Dad has, he was always looking for "Custom How" and never found one till the mid 90's I think. And that was just the one! When Geoff told me they were reprinting these, he assumed I had had them already or had seen them at least... nope! I'd like to though, I'll be ordering a set for sure-

  18. I felt like I was late to the game here, but TRJ confirmed my order yesterday and mentioned that I'd be receiving a signed/numbered set...so there must still be some left.

My father always talked about and showed me these books since I was a kid in the 1970s. We have several originals of each. Also the main reason I purchased and new about my Coachcraft car, was because my dad remembered it in these very rare old books. Not to sound "self-promoting", but I always thought that there should be a new book called "Dan Post Cars Then & Now..." I think it would be interesting to see which cars are still alive and which ones whereabouts are unknown...

Hi Gang... Derby (above) and his father played played a significant role, along with Justin Kudolla who also posted on this thread, in promoting, saving, and sharing information about Dan Post and the history of these books. These folks and others were recognized in our article in Rodder's Journal #45 about Dan Post. See attachment below showing a special "thanks" section at the bottom/end of the article.

Justin...Derby...it's a great day to see these materials republished and available to all in the Custom Car / Hot Rod / Car enthusiast hobby.

    Thanks, Geoff, for chiming in.

    Lissenup HAMB'rs!
Mr. Hacker is certifiably nuts about American built, custom, one offs. He's responsible (guilty?) for the recreation/restoration of some really unique and significant cars. He's as obsessed about our automotive history as anyone you'll meet.

I shouldn't have watched the video of Ryan opening the box. I hope my neighbor didn't steal mine...

mine arrived today, WOW! its cool.

  27. Yippee..........mine should be coming to Oz now.......yippee!!!!!!.....andyd

  28. Mine came today. The quality is unbelievable. The covers have a nice texture to them, the pages even feel kind of soft and old like a well used shop manual. I think I can even make out a bit of some smudging where they have been "held." It's almost like picking up a nearly perfect original set at the swap meet that has been looked at, but well cared for. I think there may even be a hint of copy fluid smell on the mimeographed set....not that I would have sniffed them to find out. ;) Thanks for making this possible guys!!
