Hey out there in HAMB land! I'm looking for a solution to my IFS worries. I am wanting to put in a bolt-in IFS in my 54 Pontiac Chieftain but I am having difficulty finding one to purchase. I honsetly don't want to cut off the front frame and graft or "clip" on one from a camaro or nova...etc. I like the idea of a bolt-in just because of the simplicity of it. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your help.
Fatman Fabrications has a kit for your car. Been looking to do the same thing on my daughters 51'. Here is a old link. http://www.customrodder.com/tech/0607cr_1953_pontiac_chieftain_ifs_kit/viewall.html
The pontiac front end is the same as Olds. Fat Man has dropped spindles for Olds. In stall bigger Olds brakes front an rear and a 52-53 Olds recirculating steering box. Now you have a car that steers easy and will stop your crate motor. recirict
Well, your car already has ifs so what are really trying to gain? Power steering, disc brakes both those can be adapted easily enough without grafting on new componets. Thsi ps upgrade should be pretty close to the same as yours http://www.pontiacsafari.com/L1Garage/SteeringUpgradeGM605.pdf A disc brake kit from scarebird will also convert to tapered bearings. convert to 58 arms with ball joints http://www.pontiacsafari.com/L1Garage/SteeringUpgradeGM605.pdf
