In 1956 to 1959 I served in the 496th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Hahn AFB Germany.
This picture was taken of the F-86D back in those years.

In 2011 some 496th members made a dedication of an F-86D painted in squadron colors to a museum in Akron Ohio.

Beaten too it, Convair made some very cool aircraft.......and some not so cool!!

As for Lancs I only know of two still airworthy. The BBMFs and the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museums. Though there has been at least two other restorations with the intention of returning the AC back to flying but as always the almighty $$ has either stopped of slowed these projects.

    Doc.

(PS: I kinda like the 'Thud' too!!)

Wow! In 1973, my brother was stationed at Hahn. I lived with him for a year and had a job in the commissary.

We lived in Traben-Trarbach, on the Mosel River.

This is the first time since then that I've seen or heard of Hahn.

Radiation King, the center aircraft in your presentation is a Boeing B-47.

Here is an Aussy version of the Sabre, the CAC (Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation)CA-27 Sabre Mk.32. We utilised the Rolls Royce Avon powerplant due ease of component to availability, this resulted in the highest performing production Sabre there was!
They were also armed with twin Aden 30mm cannons.

At least a couple; one is the pace/chase plane at the Reno Air Races:

Sorry I'm pushing the topic envelope right off the bat, but you were still hoping for an answer. I remember seeing the tail end of their active USAF service in the early 1980s.

What a great photo...by chance do you know a pilot by the name of John Kennedy who flew T33's in Canada? John was an instructor pilot based in Gimli MB back in the day. Later on he flew F86's and if I'm not mistaken he was part of the Canadian 'Golden Hawk' aerobatic team.

That gas station is amazing! Is it still there?
There is a Frank Lloyd Wright house about 15 miles from me that is equally amazing, however I can't find a vintage shot of it..

They are building a Frank Lloyd Wright Gas Station from plans of a "never built" station inside the Buffalo Transportation Museum

The museum is currently undertaking its most innovative initiative to date - the building of a Frank Lloyd Wright Filling Station. The station structure, with its 45’ high copper totems and expansive copper roof will now be protected from exposure to wind, rain and snow and will be able to be seen in comfort year round. Mezzanine levels will surround the indoor station so visitors will be able to look down and over the copper roof and red and white concrete paving.

In 1927, Frank Lloyd Wright designed the station for the corner of Michigan and Cherry. It was never built. The Buffalo Transportation Museum purchased the rights to build the station from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in the year 2002.

It is coming along nicely, shoould be done this year.
