Hi all. My name is Dwight, i just purchased a 62 thunderbird as my new project. Ive had various projects over the years but nothing cool enough for this place! haha. Anywho, the plan is to get it running, driving, and low. Probably leave it looking like it is. I hope to learn a lot of things here, and maybe share a few tips if i can. 62bird by 62tbird, on Flickr
Dwight, Welcome to the HAMB from Overland Park. Nice ride! If you are near KC you are shoveling 6-8 inches of snow today. Willy_P Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Thanks willy! I am in Dodge City. All the snow we got is what you see in that picture, i took it today. Car had tons of engine parts in it. 2 sets of heads in the trunk, the block was in the trunk to and still had the bottom end assembled. Im torn on to rebuild it, or get a long block for 1900 from napa or autozone. It may be cheaper to do a long block.
Hello Dwight. Just registered with HAMB. Nice ride. Presently with out a toy. Storage and money issues. Be sure to keep us all posted on our progress. Bye form Salina.
62bird2 by 62tbird, on Flickr threw on one of the cragars i had laying around because the right rear wouldent hold air....now i cant decide on to keep it classic or go for a more muscle look....what do you guys think.
Thanks all. hotdoggin, you say rebuild the 390. While i can agree with you on that for some reasons, it is just so much cheaper to get a marshall reman long block. I will spend 300-500 on machineing the block, at least 1500 on the heads to get them gone through, or for new ones. Its just hard to go for all that cost, without anything else done to the motor. When you can get a long block for 1900, with a 3 year warranty.
Welcome from Texas . Had a 62 bird , loved it. Its not snowing here , 75 and sunny today , LSR should be great !
Welcome from garden city, i say get a new long block rebuild the heads, and keep the cragers, you'll be cruzin' by summer!
Thanks again guys! wreckfixer. The long block comes with newly redone heads. So, if anything, i will just need to save up for some aluminum ones. Still debateing on spending the money on headers...or keeping the manifolds..headers would be so much better though.
Haha. It's all good. Wreckfixer. Have you ever done business with leeper transmission in garden. I'm thinking about taking my cruiseomatic to them. Alvin quoted me around 750 on the phone. There's no good transmission guys in dodge no more.
There's nothing wrong with leepers. but you may want to check out Garrison's. They will do you a good job and resonable cost.
ah, thanks for the advice wreckfixer, i think i may end up just seeing if the transmission works fine first. its been sitting for a bit..but, with fresh fluid and a new filter it may be fine. falcon spirt, i decided to go with the stock steel wheeels for now. the cragars backspacing is not the best for this car. i cant run the fender skirts with the cragars. So im worried once lowered it may have issues, or if a blowout happens..things could get bad..and expensive.
