I'd say practice on a spare hood or fender first.. get it down before shooting your ride.

Years ago, watched one of our local paint wizards (Brewer) flake a car.

Went and ran the palm of his hand over the flake before he cleared it to knock down the flakes standing up straight.

This technique still apply to modern applications??

    Take care, K

yes ... no pictures it's long gone but it has been reported its still GTG
    in its 11th year.

Done years ago ? A 11 years ago see above.

Was there lots of clear on it ? NO base , flake sprayed at lower pressure for laydown effect in thinner (like HOK's inter-coat) then 2 sets of 3 final coat
method just like most of the others here ...

Well how is it holding up ?
How much clear did you wind up putting on ? hope the answer is in the above

I've found the best is to apply two heavy coats of clear over the flake. let it dry and wet sand it level. then re-clear. most times this does the trick. in the event of a very large flake you might have to do this twice.

  15. hahaha! Pull my finger! :D
I can't say "better use brand X" cause somebody will say "Brand Y is better"
All I can say with authority is I wouldn't buy cheap clear if there's a better product in a company's product line--ex.....Don't use PPG Omni clear when you can buy PPG2021, or 3000 or 4000 ;)--because you're pushing film build limits, so use the good stuff(at least on the last coats)

my wifes old t had a silver toner extra course base...followed with a good heavy coat of clear...dry flaked In bassomatic big flake in silver ...then 3 good heavy coats....a couple days in the sun...blocked and 3 more coats of clear. blocked again , followed up with some candy grape....all the flake took care of a cracked up 40 year old glass body and looked bitchin in the sun

One thing I still don't know... how much metalflake does it take to paint a car? Say, a complete metalflake job with lots of flake on a 63 Chev hardtop?

  21. How about the Saturday night crowd ?
