Anti-bag 49-52 Chevy thread

Wow what an informative thread! I've read every post in detail over the past few days trying to grab all the information I can get to help me decide how I am going to lower my newly acquired 54. I also wanna keep it as stock as possible but still be able to drive it everywhere. I too do not want to go the bag route either but want the capabilities of having the trunk full of luggage or passengers in the back. I've just built a set of 3" blocks for the back and plan on cutting 1 1/2 coils out of the front. I'm gonna try and get it done soon so I can drive it before winter and see how it rides! If everything is good then it's on to a Fenton dual carb intake with Fish carbs and split manifolds for the newly rebuilt 235. I love my new old Chevy!!!

 

Pics aren't great(lack of room to get back) but I just finished the 2" a-arm drop and put another 1" in the rear. While I was at it I added pwr rack steering and disk brakes. I need to let it settle out but I think the rear is going to need 1 more inch.

 

Here's my 52 Poncho again....same as the chevy's. Took a coil and a half out of the front and put 4" blocks in the back. Would still like it lower though. Was thinking about cutting the rear leaf spring mount and folding it down to get her a bit lower....anyone ever do this?

 

I don't know how anyone can go any lower than this in the rear without notching the frame and cutting into the floor pan. (I'm not opposed to either of those things, I'm just saying I can't get my rear any lower than this without doing both because I currently have maybe a couple inches travel and it will bottom on dips.)

Posies leaf springs plus about 1.5 inch blocks on each side. (They are angled, so it's hard for me to say exactly how low the blocks are - they're 2 inches at the thick end and 1.25 or so at the thin end.)

Up front, dropped uprights with 3" dropped JAMCO springs. Rear is c-notched with dearched leafs and blocks.

 

Thank you very much! I did the major work years ago (around 2000-2002) but I'm only just attending to the details like stance lately. Heck, I even have a headliner now.

Here's my ute, up front are dropped uprights and the rear has passenger car springs (being a commercial vehicle they had a heavy leaf pack) anyway, rear is passenger car springs with a leaf removed and one flipped 1inch blocks and air shocks, with low air in the shocks it touches chassis on diff, this is full of wind in the shocks

Hey Teddy would some 81 inch lake pipes look ok on a 52 hardtop? Might be too long... What size are you running?

 

i believe that one is juiced.

 

My Chevy is stock suspension up front 4 inch blocks in the back. I have thought about going lower in the back tho

 

I'm running 70" lakes on my 50 Styline..that should give you an idea. Also If you want to go lower in back, de-arched springs will get you there. I'm running 3" dropped Posies with 3" blocks . BUT, that's so low that the pumkin bottoms into the trunk very easily on our totally inexcusable Massachusetts roads. So I'm compensating with Monroe air shocks and a crappy little compressor..that inch or so really helps and I can still drop the rear when I want....like to look cool at a show or something stupid like that. This is the ride height-

i think they are 80" they been on so;long i,ll have to check afew guys i know with hardtops have the same size i like cause they make them look lower

Thanks for the input guys... This is exactly what im looking for when it comes to ride height....Beautiful chop noting too radical they should have had that roof from the factory i think. They have a good deal on lake pipes at $105 a pair on ebay the sizes are 74 81 84. I like the longer pipes as on teddys ride but im not sure if that extra inch with the 81's will make a differance... Now that iv seen this ride i dont think the 74's would look bad at all LETS SEE MORE OF THEM LAKERS BOYS

Just put 3" Posies drop springs in mine and kept the 3" blocks and It raised my rear over an 1" from what it was with 2 springs pulled out of the stock pack. Waiting to see how it settles.
