been collecting plates for years and just today put some up on the old school door in my house that kinda framed them so to speak,,what interior ideas/applications have anybody done with old plates other than in the garage etc?
I collect them too. Have a milk crate full of regular plates with no real collector value. Without going all r#t r*d, rusty road sign for a floor...they do make great building materials. Wanted a little something different, so I built me a glove box. Quirky, but not in your face.
I keep one on the rear of the car and the other one under the front seat with a screwdriver handy for the plate police.
the ones on the cars/and/trucks are BEHIND the dirt... never had a REDLIGHT ticket so far so good ...
I hang them on my garage wall. I have most states and keep shopping for them all. I have a stash of Mass. plates from 1920 to 1955.
I hang em from the shed rafters. I swap a few kiwi ones for American ones from time to time on the hamb licence plate group. You guys have much cooler plates than ours, and they look great up in the shed. Just had three arrive yesterday from Zapato. Thanks brother.
The guy that made that for me made a whole lot more things........all different. He had the big animals and people in his front yard, behind a chain link fence right next to a country road. At night when your headlights illuminated them they were a real jolt. I had him make two dogs, replicas of mine and my daughter's. Some of his creations are in the Smithsonian and he had a five-piece band (life-size) that was priced at $10,000.00. The dogs were $50.00 each. Back on track; I saw a house in Down East, Maine years ago that was sided with old license plates.
Gawd.............I would hope so! That is a CHOICE piece. The plate/state correlation makes it 10X better.
i have em hanging in the garage and in the basement i collect store bought novelty plates also when i find one i like
Thanks - I also have Alaska and Hawaii cut out, just never got them hung up. Looking for more plates to do another for outside - I want all the plates on the next one to be the older 'embossed' type... So if any of you guys have 'extras' I'd be interested... conditions not important, but I'm a cheap Fokker.
I bolted some to a peg board sheet and hung them on the wall. There were going to be more on the wall, but over the years, I've run out of wall. So all the rest of my plates are in boxes. I have been going though some of them looking for old ones to register the cars will (YOM plates).
i have hundreds of them proudly displayed in boxes in my garage attic! and several on the garage walls too.
Had some displayed in my den like so before I lost the house (but not the plates): Including a little shadow box display I made for all the old DAV tags my folks saved:
thanks for the replys...mabye i should have asked .."what artistict thing have you done with old license plates other than mounting on your old car?...but thanks to al who have shown me
