is there such thing?

I just got my headers from Patriot and my are they cool. But now i'm wondering, is ther such thing as a cool, traditional air cleaner that will look good on a single carb tunnel ram?

 

Yes, I used the search function. and yes, I know that tunnel rams are not traiditional, but its what I have.

 

Seems to me a Mr Gasket street scoop would top of the look you have going.

 

Depending on the style of car maybe a "surfer" scoop

 

Gasser style should do the trick, TR

 

The hilborn or the surfer scoop would be your best bet, at least that is what I would think. Maybe just a round open element air cleaner would work as well.

 

That's about as close to "traditional" as you are going to get with that setup and the "gasser" scoop would match the valve covers.

 

The Gasser style actually comes in 2 lengths too. Not etched in stone but the longer for dual carbs and the shorter for single carbs. Many guys use the longer on single carbs as well, just change the base plate. I buy my short ones on evil-bay, I'll see if I can get you the seller but I'm kinda tied up right now, TR

Don't take offense but that's a no-go. The short version like I gave you in post #5 is the way to go!! Once you put it on, you will see.

 

It would look better with dual quads on it. JMHO

 

Not the best view point perspective, but here's my shorty on my old 26. It is about the same overall length as the Holley carb it was sitting on. I did the black paint and sanded down the fins for my own look and style. It was a nice and subtle touch, TR

Tunnel rams debuted in 1968, I have the Car Crapt magazine that blows their load on how super duper they are.

So any 1968 and later air cleaner would be "traditional" for a tunnel ram.

I'm going to be using a 6" or 8" round one on my single quad tunnel rammed small block Chevy.

 

If you like it and it works then it's cool so good luck with that air cleaner

Here's what ya want, From OBT. $175. I'm STILL saving up for mine, but I'm close to ordering it. The Hiborn scoops look great on a dual 4bbl, but a single needs one no longer than the carb. Otherwise, it looks goofy. IMO

The one from OBT would be pretty bitchin! I hate the short gasser scoops, but I'm not sure what else would be better.

 

Does anyone ever run these velocity stacks on a single 4...I've always loved the low profile look! Might not be right here but I dig em!

O'Brien has shit loads of cool ones anyway. It'd be hard to choose.

 

I'm not much on tunnel rams but there were plenty of 4 bbl custom air cleaners but they predate the tunnel ram..

 

These are getting hard to find, they were actually cast as a bolt on hood scoop in the late 50's or early 60's...
Then someone went and cast a carb base plate that bolts up to them. Can't recall who made them and I lost
the paperwork many - m-a-n-y years ago (might have been B&M/Holley????)

Might look good on your carb if you could find one

Good luck. I'm like you, I hate an aircleaner that's a lot bigger than the carb. Looks hokey. Not HAMB hokey, regular hokey.

 

cut bout 4 inches off that scoop and it will be just fine

 

A MINI Surfer Scoop Would Also Look Good.....But The Obrien Truckers Scoop would look best for this set up.......and I'm the guy who makes the Surfer Scoops.
