322 vs 364 Nailhead Gurus Questions

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by TomT, Mar 20, 2013.

  1. I have a '56 322 in need of a rebuild that has all of the components to install a 3-4-5 speed behind it. But, I'm picking up a '58 364 engine that is probably nearly good to go (or very close).

Being a nubie to nailheads, I have three questions:

1 - what 3-4-5 speed parts off of the 322 will work for the 364? I know the intermediate bellhousing will not work ....
2 - any other 322 parts work on the 364? Starter? Distributor? I'm thinking that's a pretty short list ...
3 - The clutch setup I have is an 11" - pretty heavy duty I would think. If the flywheel is usable, could it be drilled for a 10" clutch setup, say similar to a flathead Ford mated to an S10 T5 trans?

    Thanks ...
