I'm using what I believe to be F1 spindles and f100 hubs and drums. The diameter of the seal surface is 1.75 inch. All I can find local is still listed as leather seals. Upon searching on here all the recommended seals are for 1.5 or 1.562 surfaces. Any ideas?
Find a real auto parts or industrial supply and in their catalogs will be the specs you need. OD-ID-material www.applied.com/
do a search for Chicago Rawhide. They've been making seals for ever, although SKF bought them out years ago, the brand is still popular. Here's a link to their catalogs: https://www.daltonbearing.com/supplier-catalog.aspx?id=378 let us know when you get it figured out. Kipp
BOBCRMAN; When on the site "applied.com", and inputting dimensions on the shaft size do you think I should plug in 1 5/8 inch for a actual size of 1 3/4 inch seal surface? Or do they make them smaller to seal the shaft size that is inputted?
CR is charging about $20 each for leather seals. Google the hamb for the correct numbers for the seals you need. There are many threads Is post number 10 what you need? --> http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8267618#post8267618
I think the diameter of the seal surface is smaller on 40 spindles. I could be wrong as this is my first time around at this. I used the www.applied.com site and have some on order. I'll post the result when they come in. Thanks
If you have F-1 spindles (1-3/4" seal surface) and F-100 hubs, just get a stock F-1 or F-100 seal, they are the same part, Timken 5827. There is nothing wrong with using leather wheel seals either.
RICH B; Isn't the reason for the grease cups was to catch and redirect the grease that would leak past them? Or are the new leather seals better then the old ones?
I think modern wheel bearing grease is more heat resistant and stays "in" better. I still install the grease shields tho.
