Sectioned/Chopped 49 Business Coupe Build

Holy crap, this is crazy.
This is what kustom is all about!

 

Some ideas on color would be great!

 

I like an old fashioned Gold for the car at this stage but that will probably change.

To add some description to the pictures so far,

The section is 2 3/4", the cut thru the 1/4's is low mostly to get rid of the prior repairs, with the cut thru the pillars at the mid door point.

The rear wheel arch area of the 1/4's was remade, with the wheel opening dropped 2 3/4" plus another 2" the intent to help restor some visual height to the 1/4 panels.

The rear 1/4 sections and tail lights are 54 Plymouth peices donated by "Monster Kid" There was a little reshaping to round out the flatter Plymouth 1/4's to match the Shoebox but not really that much.

The tail light area was moved forward 3/4" on the donar 1/4 sections.

The panel under the lower boot opening was remade with 1/2 extra curve thru the centre. The lower boot skin and number plate recess area was also remade and filled to match the lower slam panel. The lower corners of the boot opening are rounded.

There are filler peices fabbed and added to connect the tail light area to the boot.

The rear bar is also from the Plymouth, it's been shorterened 3" and a number of pie cuts added to help curve it to match the body shape. And it's been mounted upside down.

A stone tray to match the new rear bar was made and a new shape fabbed to connect the tail light area to the stone tray made and fitted, as well.

Hope that kinda brings the description and pictures into line.

Thanks for looking and any suggestions on colour for gary should help make it more confusing.

Very interesting and original rear end treatment

 

Are you having any side trim? If so and you get a good split I can see it in a dark metallic blue base and a silver top section. That or silver with a white pearl top

Not without a great deal of effort. Hopefully it will be less of a drama to remove the rear wheels and tires when the four link and bags are installed.

Even then Gary will probably have to disconnect the rear dampeners at one end to be able to.

A update on progress
Door inner frames were shortened and repairs carried out. New lower door skins were fabricated and fitted

Wow like it a lot!!!

 

The profile of both rear 1/4 panels were remade and the placement made to suit the new rear bar. The lower 1/4's were also extended to meet up with the lower tailight area on the bottom side of the stone tray, with a little bump out behind the bumper

 

I dig this a lot! I bet it's gonna be real smooth

The cuts for the chop were laid out and the bracing added to the body
