Here are some of the '40 Fords in Detroit last week. A '39 and a Merc will be thrown in too.

I'm not a fan of large diameter wheel or the nose job, but the workmanship was amazing. There were so many subtle mods on this, I probably missed half of them.

This was my second trip to Detroit and thought this year was better than last year. Good to have met up with some HAMBERs in the basement.

Workmanship or not......it's a total waste of a nice car.....how is that grill better than stock, and those wheels are like putting 40 ford rims on a Ferrarri.....

  12. I gotta agree....I don't like the grille at all....leave well enough alone!

Even at 56 years of being a car guy, I still enjoy the workout of differentiating the 38-40 Standard/Deluxe models. Kind of like doing math in your head. Yes, Henry got it right the first time, and the second..third ...for a number of years. Nice shots, thank you for posting.

'40 Fords are perfect as they are.....the peak of the Art Deco era. Missing running boards, chopped, channeled etc just aren't right for '40's

The red deluxe coupe had the hood open Friday morning. It has a Y-block in it, which makes it way cool in my book.

The amount of work in that car is staggering. I get to watch 40's go together all of the time as a friend of mine builds quite a few for his customers. As for everyone stating that Henry got it right with the '40..............couldn't agree more and the '40 Standard is about the sexiest thing on 4 wheels.

yes. just lower them, tires and some nice wheels, done.

  21. This series of pics is the perfect example to me of how the '40 Ford lends itself so well to the entire gamut of styles. It looks great Stock, Traditional Hot-Rod, Kustom, Street Rod, whatever. Yes we all have our personal favorite styles, but for me the '40 is the one car that fits well in them all. When I got my '40 coupe I was set on something in the modern StreetRod style. Not anymore though, I am hedding in a more traditional style thanks to the HAMB, but I will have some modern touches that will be as hidden as I possibly can.

I heard three million to build that Ridler winner! You could have probably bought every '40 there for that much cash. My favourite was the black ragtop with the Hemi, But Bill Whetstone's (SP?) blue coupe that's in the group shots is gorgeous! You didn't get a good picture of it, but you can see it in the middle row in some of the shots.

x2!!! I still can't get over how perfect that design was back then. Standard, deluxe, every body style, it's all good.

'39 - 40 Fords were and always will be classic hotrods.
