Great looking work. Still trying to figure out how this forum works. Trying to subscribe, hope I did it right. Who did you purchase your floor pans from? I will be keeping up with your build. Need all the help I can get as I am trying to do as much of the work myself as I can. Thanks.

Thanks teagam. My front pans are from national chevy. The rest I made patterns and made myself. Get pics of yours up, there is great advice here. Also, the are some good 49~ 54 owner group pages on Facebook that are a lot of help!

Thanks redhawk. Was actuly a pain in the ass. Will go with gambino 4 link on next thing I build. Actually dont save any money this way when you figure in cost of link, time spent on crossmember, panhard bar, new bushing and ubolts, cups to mount axle to link. I was happy I could push myself to make it work though. Hoping it rides nice!

I just did as this looks to be one good build thread.

  14. Great build. I love 53-4 hardtops, and the '53 210 mdls are a fav of mine. The trailing arm crossmember, came out nice. Congrats!

Is the 69 camaro rear end a direct fit?

Just found your thread, it is looking great. By all means keep the lady friend.
You have done a great job on the build so far. keep at it.
I have a trailing arm rear setup also, but havent pulled the trigger to put it in, was also planing on using the original crossmember. What rear are you using?

He mentioned he's using a 69 Camaro rear end earlier in the thread.

I'm in the same boat and will be installing the trailing arm setup in my 53 hard top. I will also be bagging my car however I'm really trying to stay away from cutting into the body too much (trans tunnel/etc.). I was searching online and noticed someone used a two point driveshaft so that only the back 1/2 of the shaft would pivot thus eliminating the need for the tunnel. It looked like a nice setup and a good way to do it. Hopefully I can find that link again.

    mrconcdid-

PM me before you do, there are some things that need to be taken into consideration before doing this project.

Bobafet- I used a 69 camaro rear. Also had a 78 camaro rear. I think both of these coukld have been direct fit in a stock environment. I cut all brackets down to mount to the 2 links.

How are you going to route your exhaust?

I've been looking at your setup and it seems like it may be difficult routing the exhaust past your rear axle. (too much stuff in the way)

I was about to pull the trigger on a similar setup but then figured I would have clearance issues with the exhaust. Now I'm back to square one trying to figure out how to do this. Maybe mounting the bags on the trailing arm so they sit lower??

  24. i like your rear panhard bar, nice low roll center

i thought i had it made in baging my 53 and made a crosmember and mounted the bags outboard and right where the exhaust goes
gonna try to run the tailpipes under the rear and back up, got a wagon with the pipes under the rear and it works fine
sure glad i got a exhaust bender my work is gonna be cut out for me, sure is nice welding and fabing but sometimes we are not engineers:eek:

Exhaust will be run under the axle. I had that question at first, and a couple guys on here with similar setups recommended that solution.

    Leebo,
How did you get the "car side" outer wheel well profile of the car to match the trailer fenders?

And how did you attach the trailer fenders to the inside of the car wheel wells? (Seam sealer?, weld?, etc?)

Crazy- just laid it down on a piece of 16ga and traced the radius. Used a hand shear to cut it out from there.
