Maybe it's just me, but whenever the narrator mentions the "wide stance chassis" the first thing that comes to my mind is Larry Craig.

If you want to temper the ads with reality, dig up some old '50s Popular Mechanics or Car Life magazines and read the "what owners are saying about..." articles, or letters to the editor complaining about how cars "today" are too complex, flashy, get lousy mileage or are poorly built... and don't forget that Gloria Swanson line in the movie Sunset Boulevard about new cars being "made of chromium and spit" (referring to William Holden's '46 Plymouth convertible) compared to her Isotta-Fraschini... it's all relative.

Well at least they were selling "QUALITY AMERICAN BUILT AUTOMOBILES!" Plus they all had character and style! With that J2 Rocket Power! I'll take one of each of them please in any color you wish to hand out! But I am just a little partial to the BIG ROCKET OLDSMOBILE'S! After all my Dad had a 50 303 powered 88,a 57 324 powered 88, 67 425 powered 88 convertible. Thanks for posting that very cool old advertisememt!

If it weren't for ad men and salesmen, you'd have one brand, made by the gubment,in one color.I fear we have some whiny clock punchers in our midst. My Dad is in creative for an ad agency and has done national TV and print for Olds,Buick,Cadi,Toyota, and Nissan.I was running a new car dealership a year out of college and our favorite saying was "Buyers are liars".Every buyer comes in with his newest latest mojo that he/she is gonna smoke one by the car dealer, which ain't happening. You do it once every 3 or 4 years,we do it 15 times a day,365 days a year.Who do you think is going to win?You want an honest deal,be honest with the seller. It's just that simple.....And now, back to your regularly scheduled program. ;)

    • Good evening. How are ya?
    • Terry

      Yeah, hi.

This is really a beautiful car, you know? Of course you know it.
You know what I'd like to give you for this car?
I'd like to give you $1,000!
I can't give you that, but I'm not gonna give you a whole line.
I'm gonna tell you what I can give you. Come over here.
How would you like, for $525, to own this practically new 'Vette?
I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
I'm gonna knock ten percent right off the top. How about that?
      That's $98 down.
    • Terry

      No, I'm sorry.

$98 a month. You ask me how can I do this?
I'll tell you how I can do it.
My boss wants to get rid of the sporty cars.
      You all right?
    • Terry

      I'm fine.
      I don't think it's a good idea.
      I'm busy.
    • Unknown

      I want you to listen.
    • Terry

      I've gotta go!
Leave me alone, for God's sake!
