What is your plan for a reverse gear?

Just to clarify something I muddled before: I am thinking of cog belt rather than chain. Like the final drive on a Harley. Cleaner, quieter, and easily will handle the torque given that you are running "rear" sprockets on the driving side, thus reducing torque by about 75% compared to a typical M/C primary.

All you'd need at the back is a sturdy stub shaft on the right side of the diff to carry your sprocket hub/yoke. Looking at what you've done so far, I'd say it's about a 30-minute job for you! Consider a rear axle hub from a small FWD car.

Bodame brings up an excellent point about the reverse issue. Although you could just go electric, perhaps an opportunity exists for a reversing transfer in front .

I think it's really cool that you are putting your issues out there for ideas!
And, I say "Bravo" to what you've done so far..

A lot of Austin 7 single seated cars run an offset differential, early banjo type look like small versions of a model a ford rear axle
One side is cut and welded together and the other is extended half shafts can be made to suit ,
There is always the option of running a solid rear axle like GN or frazer Nash cars , the jappic recreation I am currently building uses a 25 mm solid rear axle

But you would need to turn the drive through 90 degrees to then run a chain final drive

It's just possible this is a modified Victoria Combination ("La Parisienne")
In 4 wheeled form they were somewhat unstable, evidently. One can maybe assume the caster was modified in the process to make things safer.

Quite a bit of research Ade! Did they make you wear white gloves to handle the paper? I like Buckingham's moustache.

Some of the old magazines are very fragile White gloves not required but there are little pillows to rest some books on so they don't get damaged ,

I have gone to look at paper and brought my own gloves..... only to find that I was treating the material more kindly than the stewards!
