Projects Love it or hate it ... but here's my version of the T Modified

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by k1w1rodder, Mar 11, 2013.

  1. I started with stalled project I picked up,
It required a new chassis and I didn't want the pinto motor that came with it. I had ideas of doing something a little different, (ideas I got from the Hamb) So we went with a 1/4 eliptic front end set up

From there we picked up a donor car to supply all the goodies. Remember this is a budget build.
    cars 002.jpg
Everything that was useable was stripped out. The diff went under the back end with a model a rear spring
The four bars were fabricated in my spare time at work
    Engine mounts
Cross member and drive shaft loop
I do a little hobby casting so I made a few bits and bobs to make the build a bit more unique

Petrol tank is an old Dodge unit
Every thing was fabricated and painted in my 30 x 30 shed and carport

    headlights are Guide units
    more to follow:D

I love when a car gets De-ratted! You are on the right way!

    Post more please!

It dont look good design wise, but I Think it look like you going the right way, so please dont let me down, and go street rod.

  3. donor steering column

steering box is HQ Holden cross steer

    from paint to reassembly
    front wheels are getting swopped

Now don't flame my diff cover...it was done to try and get the diff looking more central due to off set pumpkin. I know it doesn't look as good as the real thing but it is completely home built and..... i like it!

From here it was body time. Now I know it glass......trying to find steel down here is like trying to find rocking horse sh!t. It was framed out, stretched, with opening doors. beggars can't be choosers so I left it as it was.

Chassis colour is Milk Chocolate, body colour is Dutch White. Oh motor is 308 Holden, Edlebrock manifold and four barrel, box is just a trimatic

    more to come:eek:

Where did you get the 1/4 eliptic's from?

  5. Snells in Auckland made the springs to my specs and I fab'ed the mounting brackets with adjustable height.

I like the white/brown combo. Would look good with a bit of pinstriping.

O/T, but did you make your own furnace for casting? is it an old LPG bottle then cement lined and running off gas? I've been looking at plans for a 'flowerpot furnace' to do a couple of things but yours looks pretty sweet, especially the swing-away lid set-up.

That would look great with a DuVal style windscreen, I'm sure you could make your own!
Keep going, that is one of the best looking budget builds going, even if it is tupperware (For now).

GassersGarage, the Land of the Long White Cloud is New Zealand.

    Doc.

Edit: Good guess Volvobrynk, I don't think you are that stupid at all!!

  14. Nice work, K1W1. Been a while since i caught up with ur progress. Ive had a few 308 Holdens, and they go well. GasserG, the land of the long white cloud is English translation for Aotearoa, which is the Maori name for New Zealand.

I like it! And for all those guys and gals out there asking how to build a low buck rod just keep up with this build. Keep posting pictures. I'm watching and waiting. I started the same way (not much money) and later when I started making more the finish will come.

Looks like a great build. I get what you said about the cover you made for the rearend pumpkin, but unless it really bothers you, maybe you should lose it. Most, if not all, hotrodders would understand the off set pumpkin. There's no need to try and disguise it.

I like the color combination you're going with. And I like that you're keeping things simple. Just like a modified should be.

Yup, I would never sweat you for using a fiberglass body. Or odd steering, rear end, etc. given the circumstances. And I'm even willing to give a pass for the radials since proper bias ply tires are probably expensive to ship.

But... that fake cover has to go. I know I would want friends to call me out for anything similar.

  24. Yes but it's 1 1/2 old gas cyl to make it a bit taller. I cut one in 1/2 and then took a 6 inch slice out of another and welded together.
And yes pinstripping is on the cards for later.

  25. Hey Jeff thats another little casting project, wings are copied from a piece a friend had and the rest I made.
