I snapped most of the rusty carriage bolts but one, removing the steps. The popular truck vendors mentioned on the HAMB don't sell them. Went to four hardware stores and the three popular auto supply stores and no luck. These carriage bolts are 5/8" long x 1/4" dia with a big flat low profile 7/8" dia head. Any one know where to get them?

They use bolts like that on garage doors made of wood to hold the hinges on.Maybe Home Depot or Lowes might have something you can use ...

mcfaddendalehardware.com (McFadden-Dale Hardware) Try their store locator, I know they have some in CA, just not sure if they're far enough north. You could call and find out if they'll drop some in the mail to you.

Thanks Jim. LMC has a picture of them in their exploded view, but the are not available. Their website says they (part#30-0270) are on backorder.

66, They don't have them. I can't wait, so I went to HD today, and got some ss Pan Head M6-10 x 20 mm. See pic. If the orig type become available ever, I'll replace the Pan Heads because they are about an 1/8" taller with the washer.

The typical 1/4" diameter carriage bolt head is at least half the size of the Chevy step carriage bolt, so grinding it down only makes it smaller.

To the best of my knowledge no one sells the bolts with the exact heads like original. When i ordered replacement hardware for my steps, bed and wood floor what i got looked like regular carriage bolts that were the appropriate length. I got all of mine from mar-k in oklahoma. They are the bed experts. If special ones are available then they will know and should have them. They come in regular or stainless steel. The cool thing about the ss is they can be polished to a mirror finish if you care.

Mar-k is who I recently got my oak bed kit from. Mar-k does not sell the steps nor the carriage bolts. Mar-K are the experts when it comes to the bed kits.

Looks like an elevator bolt - my local Ace hardware has them, not sure if they'd work ...

Gator if that is a 1/4" threaded stud carriage bolt it will work. Went to ACE yesterday, didn't see it. Will go back tomorrow and see if I can order them. Thanks!
