You do good work Eli. I have to say I like it better without the hood.

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate it! Gotta say I was digging the look of the gloss black as it was coming together but thought it was a shame to cover up such a purty Nailhead. I'm gonna do a version with the hood gone and the chrome exhaust you mentioned. Do you want 'em inside or outside the rails? Eli

I'm not so sure that's a good idea, but thanks for the vote of confidence.

Damn, I wish I had bought that car when I saw at the Springfield swap meet a couple of years ago.The guys who had it said the LaSalle tranny needed work, but otherwise it was a nice car at a good price.

This car has made a BIG trek across the states, from Chattanooga in '53 to Florida, California, Ohio, then back to Chattanooga in 2011.

It still amazes me that ALL the original parts are still here..... Other than the alternator, air cleaners, paint, and interior, it's exactly like Bruce built it 60 years ago.

The best part is.... I drive the HELL out of it. The mechanical parts of this car were sorted out LONG before I got it.

I'm just the custodian of a SUPER historical Hot Rod that performs as it was designed in the early 50's.

Once again, glad you didn't buy it......

Hey "John356" (2 post above)...Yep, you shoulda bought it!
Darrel Turner and my self (Joe Chapman) were the guys selling (or trying to sell it) at Springfield swap....We spent close tp $1,000 repairing tranny with custom machined parts & labor!!!
Yes, Kevin is very glad you didn't buy it that day.
WAY to go Kev ! I'm glad you finally solved the history of the car and got to meet the original owner/builder.
    Regards, Joe

Here's one version with no hood and pipes.

Congrats on the magazine coverage! I've gotta go find a copy. That car is so cool.

I like the idea of the long chrome pipes, but like on the blue car you posted earlier. Looks cool with the full hood, but damn what a shame to hide that beautiful engine.

Just got a copy of the magazine. Congratulations on the coverage. You should bring it to Beatersville this year (so I can see it in person). ;)

x2 on the long chrome pipes.

What's this Beatersville you speak of? I'm usually up for a road trip.

Just a quick update after all this time... The original builder of the roadster has decided at 75 years old, he'd rather the car stay with me. He and his wife have health issues and probably couldn't drive it. Said he'd rather see it being driven and enjoyed as he had always planned, rather than just sitting in his garage. He comes by on a regular basis and we talk alot. I've taken him and the family on multiple rides.

I don't plan on doing much except some gloss black paint this winter and general maintenance to ensure we get to continue driving the wheels off of it.

If you are gonna be at the Redneck Rumble this weekend, stop by and say hey.

The engine is a '56 Buick Nailhead. Thanks for the good words, I'm usually not too hard to find.

I've been down by the Sonic a few times John, but haven't seen you either.

Your right Dave, the car is way cooler than me... You know all about that feeling, right? ;-) We're planning on bringing a few old jalopies up this year for Autorama.

  28. Needed a 6 deuce, Nailhead roadster fix as today seems to be dragging. Pissed I didn't hit Paradise last month now. I'm stashing parts for a roadster as my next project after my truck is done this Spring.
    Happy Birthday by the way!
