The Mercury front end is longer than the Ford. I set a Mercury hood with the raised "scoop" on my Ford to see if it would swap, it was quite a bit longer.
thanks. i really needed to know about the hood. i dont know if it will fit in the rear. i know the hood is not as wide as the ford.
This post has an image of a merc grill in that body of Ford (3rd image down): http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58288
i made the mec hood fit the ford fenders. i cut the edges off both hoods. i welded the merc hood to the ford edges (i left 1 inch on the sides). i then trimmed the rear to fit the ford. it looks pretty good. i will post pics soon.
the merc hood was too long. i has to remove about 3 inches from the back. it was also to narrow. i cut my original hood up to make this fit with my ford fenders. i left about an inch and a half on the sides of the ford hood. i cut the merc hood right on the edge. now i have to make the front sides and finish welding it up. i think i will make the scoop functional.
thanks. when i finish this, i will finish making it a hardtop. i started last year i hope to get it done this year.
3" wheelbase is exactly the difference between the '52 to '54 Merc's and the Ford's. And it's all from the cowl forward. Looks good!
