Finally got the back of the 39 Merc down where I want it. Hey, whats that sound? Oh yeah, thats the exhaust pipes scraping on every curb or raised surface. I forgot about slowing down and taking train tracks at an angle... Thats the price you pay for the right look! Now, should I pull the rubber off the running boards and paint them body color?
Jesus,,,i just got a 'stiffy'...sorry for the visual but you just gave me hope that it still works...Thanks! DDR
Now, should I pull the rubber off the running boards and paint them body color? NO!!! NO!!! That thing is Reet, Sweet and Petite!! Just practice driving it. That's the stance I'm aiming for with my '49 Olds. Looks right out of the little pages.
What a sweet ride... perfect stance... it sure looks like it roled out of the mid to late 40's like this... And please keep the rubber on the running boards.
i'd do something about that continental kit looking think you call a back bumper before i'd worry about the running boards!
Very nice!!! The rear bumper does look like it wants a divorce from the rest of the car. You might wanna seek counseling and get it a little closer
Perfect stance! (body colored boards and lose the deck handle and plate and It finished!) =] To be honest its finished now..hehe Maiki
Leave the boards...looks period now...they get painted and it'll just come out looking like they're fiberglass....or worse, something that looks like it came of the Boydster......just my $.02
Runningboards wouldnt be my first-pri. Take care of that rearbumper. And move the taillights down to the bumperhorns, find a cool, period licenceplateholder and move the plate down as well.
Yes,that's what I was thinking too although the position it is right now looks cool too but it would look even lower down there.Otherwise totally gorgeous car...
Looks good J now just take 2" out of the window and fix the continental kit! where's that pic With you in the car and that hat and pipe?
I agree, the rubber running boards look classy, I think painted they'd look modern, the photoshop illustrates my point. I'm jealous, by the way.
Here's my friend Klas' 1939 Merc. Think you have a 1940 bumper and guards. The 1939 bumper is better looking, I think. Mine when it was a convertible. The rear bumper isn't perfectly leveled here.
My bumper looks weird because they are off a 40' Lincoln Zephyr- I though somebody would identify them - The rear is straight like a stick, where the stock Merc one is curved. I need to shorten the bumper brackets to pull it into the body a bit. Definitely going to shave the deck handle and script at some point too. Thanks for the positive words! Sean- We'll be at the Alameda car show on the 8th, and I'll be at the all Italian car and bike show on the 9th showing my 57 Vespa. Bummed I'll miss Jimmy's. jay
OK jay, That stance is perfect! But please tell me what you used to lower the front? droped axle, reversed eyes, adjustable springs? Also the same for the rear? Hey, if you do decide to lose the rubber on the running boards, I'll buy em? I need them for the coupe. Later Ken
