You're going to have a big problem with a rack and pinion if that one hangs too low. The inner tie rod ends must be level with the inner pivot of the lower control arm, with the tie rods parallel with the control arms. You can get by that if you can mount the outer tie rod ends ON TOP of the control arms. You'd have to weld up the lower portion of the hole on the end of the steering arm (not all the way closed, just to the small end of the tie rod end) and get a tie rod end tapered reamer (Speedway has them) to reverse the hole. That or cut the end off and weld a ready made tie rod end bung on (I did that, but made my own control arms, and mine aren't upside down). Then you can mount the rack so that the tie rod ends are parallel with the control arms but about 2" higher. Then you're going to run into problems with clearance between the engine and rack. You might just want to keep a steering box since the linkage doesn't hand down quite as far as a rack would. You might be able to mount the linkage upside down too, but the pitman arm end would be an issue.

and the reason that one looks like it hangs down too low is b/c it mounts futher back on the frame then rack and pinion i would use would be inline with the tie rods

That looks it will work sweet as. Is your car column shift? Can be a bit tricky keeping it with a rack conversion apparently.

I made this one, because I had hydraulics on mine for 17yrs. I beat the shit out of it. Nothing ever moved on mine. I noticed on my best friends 64 (CUT TOWERS OUT) for a big motor, Things started moving. So built a brace for him as well.... Good luck

i was planning on building something like that out of tube...i started my mounts, but my buddy grabbed me 1 3/8" instead of 1 1/4" so it doesnt fit in my tubing bender..used up what little 1 1/4" i had laying around the shop

  16. Going to look at a 2 door 64 today after work. God I can't wait to bag it, stance just looks badass. Would you mind if I pick your brain a little bit when I get to the bagging stage? Keep it up!

well i messed with the front suspension a little bit and started cutting out the rear wheel wells. what a pain in the ass . After looking at my options i am considering just mustang 2ing it.. after i do a disk brake swap and figure out what to do for steering, i could of just done a m2 for that. Still up in the air with that tho
