We've been looking through quite a bit of info. lately trying to prepare for shirt designs, handouts, etc. I saw this photo a couple days ago and I must have looked at it at least a hundred times since. I love this shot!

This is a Spalding Flamethrower Distributor, It uses two set of points and two coils. This is what i used before the Vertex mag.
It worked on the order of a early Ford flathead. It was later changed to Grant Dist.[IMG]

Ya'll can't believe all the interesting old racing parts that Gene has kept over the years I don't think he has threw anything away. There is always a cool story from Gene or Melvin about each part that he drags out of the back room. Darron Gray is going to video gene and Melvin telling old stories for everybody to enjoy after we get the car finished.

Absolutely! There are a lot of great threads here on the hamb but none that can top this one. The history, the pictures both old and new, the stories, and all the detail is incredible. Been watching this from the start. Reminds me of the cars that used to run at Fremont out here on the west coast when I was a kid. Thank you Quain for your hard work, dedication, and taking the time to share this amazing story.

Always enjoy the updates. Thanks, Gene. Lucky you, Quain. I'd love to rummage through the treasure chest that I think Gene's shop must be.

This is Dave a friend, he brought me a Stainless pipe and Stainless cap ends for my rear bumper and a battery cable to run from the rear to starter. He has almost completed a land Speed car except the body and is working on that now. He is a great craftman and built everything himself. I am still amazed at all the people
that have helped on the Moonlighter and i can never thank Quain Stott enought for all his fabrication and
labor and dedication to this project. Thank to all.

    Gene,
Was the Spalding Distributer a reliable unit?
Will or would you still consider using it again?

Did you use Champion Spark Plugs?

It worked great for a while and then started giving trouble, i changed to a vertax mag. I always used Autolite sparkplugs.

  28. I've been in Gene's driveway when I was a kid,,but at that time there were not too many kids that had enough money to have a camera,,at least this kid didn't. HRP

  29. I would bet most hot rodders on here in their late 40's and up had local car hero's they looked up to and idealized. I know of a half a dozen that are racing their old cars. Others who still have them tucked away with inches of dust or building replicas of cars gone by.

There is a lot of cool things about this build and this is just one more thing that is hard to believe not only did Gene keep the car but he still has the original title from 1961.[IMG]
