Don't know about that. The people that lived on Terminal Island in San Pedro, CA were mostly fishermen...

    http://www.nps.gov/history/history/online_books/5views/5views4h87.htm

"Terminal Island residents were the first to be forcibly removed from their homes. Many of the men were taken by the FBI in December 1941, even before civilian exclusion orders were issued by Lt. General John DeWitt, commanding officer of the Army's Western Defense Command. Those orders eventually resulted in the internment of more than 120,000 Japanese Americans."

    Now back to the show.

  8. Oscar Mayer visited my Dad's little corner market in Hermosa Beach, Ca in ~1970 and took my some of my nephews for a ride in the Wienermobile. He also passed out Oscar Mayer Wiener whistles to all the kids in the neighborhood. Great fun.

I love the Name "Rice Bubbles". way better than Rice Krispy's IMO.

AND, if you were old enough to remember, no one at that time in history, could speak Japanese.
So, until our leaders could sort out the good from the bad, they put all into 1 group & managed to quell any further spying & subersive activity.
    I was 10 at that time----Don

No, don't be done, just be informed.---Don't believe ALL the Govt.publications.
My good friend, living in Pearl Harbor at age 6, after the "bombing" had to wear an I.D. tag around his neck to school each day until VJ day in 1945.
    Yes, he was Japanese decent.
Being a native SoCal resident in Inglewood, I can remember all the WWII "blackouts" we used to endure---Including Redondo Beach, etc.---Don

Just wanted to say... this story shows what can happen on the internets!:D This exact same article appears in many different places but much of it is wrong.

This incident did happen, the B17 was hit by a German FW 190 and made a remarkable return to base but much of the rest is just made up by someone. 'All American' flew with the 12th AF and was based in North Africa at this time, thus the raid on Tunis. They most certainly did not fly over the English Chanel to return to England, they were not escorted by P51s, planes that were not in operation in North Africa in Feb 43.

Again... nothing but admiration for this plane and crew and their remarkable experience but I have never seen the need to embellish such heroics and as a bit of a history nut I like to see things that are accurately reported.

Here is a bit from a survivor from the 'All American' setting the record straight.

I was always told it was to fill the gap between the rails, for wheeled traffic. In the west about the time cars came around, lumber was cheap, also easy to install, just nail it to the ties.
