Oscar Mayer visited my Dad's little corner market in Hermosa Beach, Ca in ~1970 and took my some of my nephews for a ride in the Wienermobile. He also passed out Oscar Mayer Wiener whistles to all the kids in the neighborhood. Great fun.

Just wanted to say... this story shows what can happen on the internets! This exact same article appears in many different places but much of it is wrong.

This incident did happen, the B17 was hit by a German FW 190 and made a remarkable return to base but much of the rest is just made up by someone. 'All American' flew with the 12th AF and was based in North Africa at this time, thus the raid on Tunis. They most certainly did not fly over the English Chanel to return to England, they were not escorted by P51s, planes that were not in operation in North Africa in Feb 43.

Again... nothing but admiration for this plane and crew and their remarkable experience but I have never seen the need to embellish such heroics and as a bit of a history nut I like to see things that are accurately reported.
