Not the first one you drove but the first you personally owned the title for? In the UK most teens will end up with something pretty lame and underpowered as their first car as for the first few years insurance could cost anything around the $1500-3000 a year mark. Please help to destroy the stereotype that UK drivers have that all American teens had cool cars as their first ride. I was forced to drive one of these POS Vauxhall Nova 1.2litres.
Post your full address, I'll mail you a sympathy card for that one!! ; s My first one; in 1969, a '57 Ford Courier; sedan delivery! It smoked like a freight train!! I won't go into the body rot issues, I still loved it!!
Dare I even tell you my first car was a 1941 Willys? Yep, four door sedan, bog stock, went real well, paid a whole $20 for her, but in 1966 I didn't consider it had 'hot rod' potential so I swapped it for a shoebox Ford, 4 door again, then tore that apart for the sidevalve engine for my 'real' hotrod project, a 1928 Essex coupe... Then I ended up with a Hillman Minx... Cheers, Glen.
It only lasted 8 months before i drove it off the road and put it on its roof trying to avoid a huge stag that ran across the road. To make matters worse i only had 3rd party insurance so got no payout and i then had to spent over a year taking the bus as i couldn't afford another car.
My first car, in 1976 when I was 16 (no license yet) was a 1964 Olds Cutlass convertible. Bought it for $20 and had 5 of my friends help me push it 2 blocks to my house. I never got it running and it was sold for scrap by my parents!
In 1964 I paid $75 for a 1939 IHC pickup. Next came a '54 Chevy 2 door HT that I still have in my lineup.
My first car was a 65 Mustang fastback. It was not the prom queen, but it was mine. It was mostly putty but it was shiney and it made me happy!
1955 Chevrolet Belair, 2 door sedan. I got it August 21, 1972. Still have it. 40 years in 2012. Here I am pictured near the beautiful Detroit River, Bishop Park, Wyandotte, MI

In '68, a '61 Studebaker Lark IV. Had dents in 3 out of the 4 fenders and 4 out of 4 doors. Paid a whopping $50, put about $100 in the carb and a set of retreads, drove it for 6 months until the tranny blew and sold it for $200 for parts.
56 Chevy - 2 door. Bought it in 1965 for $550 from the math teacher at the high school. I bought it with money made working at a grocery store after school.

'59 Reilly. Twin SUs, factory tack, burl dash and leater buckets. A 25 dollar car, it had so much blowby that I had to stick my head out the window, Fireball Roberts style, to drive it home.
1940 Ford opera coupe. In 1960 they could be bought for $150. Of course I worked washing dishes for $0.75 an hr. ,traded it for a 57 chev 210 w/ a 283 mill. Never thought those days would end.....
Actually, the first car I owned was a 1932 Ford 5 window coupe at the age of 12 years old,,short lived when my dad found out I bought it! HRP
1947 Mercury coupe - bone-stock with V8. Bought from old couple at church in 1959 when I was in 9th grade.

A 50 Merc coupe, followed by my first 52 Merc convert, then a 55 Pontiac convertible then a 57 Bel-air 2 dr HT , some where in the mix was a 40 Ford coupe with 283.. Wish I had them all back.

In 1960 I bought a 1953 Chevy Belair Convertible for $750. I was 15. I had worked two summers and saved the money to buy the car and pay my insurance for a year in advance. It was the orange looking one and I instantly became popular with the girls riding in the backseat sitting on the retracted top. Good memories when the top blew off by a passing big rig and I drove it the next day to the prom, on a rainy night, with the top taped on with masking tape. Yup, we both got pretty wet. Funny what makes the best memories.
In 1986 I drove a 68 Mustang coupe gold with a black gut to high school. 302 auto, power disc brakes, power steering. There were a couple of other cool cars there ,but mostly Cutlass supremes and lowered Toyotas and Datsuns. This was Central High in Providence,R.I.
My first car was a '66 Mustang coupe with a 289 I bought for 45 bucks. It didn't run and had a rust hole big enough I could stick my hand through. But, it was only two weeks after my 15th birthday and it was all mine! It took my Dad and I a while to figure out why it wouldn't run, but it turned out it only needed a new timing gear and chain.
My first car was a 1963 Buick LeSabre 2dr with a 401 nail head. I found it in a barn while deer hunting on my dads friend Nick's property with my father and brother. I first seen the Buick in the barn when I was 13 years old. The next season it was still there but my dad wouldn't ask Nick about it for me plus I was only 14. The next season it was still there and I just couldn't take it anymore LOL. I asked Nick if I could buy it and he just said I'll have to talk to your father and that was the only time we talked about it. 2 weeks later Nick drove the Buick to my house and handed me the keys!! I was only 15 LOL I had $300 saved and that's what he took for the car. Picture of the car I took when I was 14
