First, I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question. I am new and I blame my ignorance. But I picked up a 1927 roadster that someone built the frame for. It has a very "homemade" looking coil springs and shocks on the front end and I want to take them off and start fresh. My question is, other than a rough ride, are there any other problems without putting any front suspension on there? Or I was thinking of just run shocks without leaf springs, or coils? I guess may thought process is, the way it is set up I would have to basically cut off the whole front end and re-locate everything if I wanted to add leaf springs, and I dont like the modern look of coils or coil-overs. Thoughts? Advice?
Please post a picture of the suspension set up you have, then we can give you ideas on the best way to fix (or change it).
yeah, is that possable? I am thinking like an old dragster, where they just have a front axle, no suspension..Am I just being crazy dumb?
yes, especially since you live in michigan. if the car doesnt have suspension you probably wont ever drive it.
ok here is the front end as it sits... http://s1025.beta.photobucket.com/user/abakerman/library/27 Front End
Before you "tackle" it read this a couple times. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=677460
Think what it would be like riding a ridgid frame Go Cart on the street. The suspension system absorbs the shock that would eventually destroy the frame and the car would break apart. you need some sort of suspension system.
i agree with this with out suspension your frame will break. a lot of other components probably wont last either.
