Nads, I'd say thats what sets you apart from the clowns who just want to do a quick spray and buff and flip a car for profit. I cringed at the thought of all that beautiful chrome getting sanded, but you're doing it right. This car couldn't be in better hands.

I started welding up the new stainless caps, they're much narrower and shallower than the first ones, not to mention much, much lighter, they still have to be ground and polished.

They will also sit about an inch further in once the centers of the original caps are cut out.

Thanks, this is it, I can't spend any more time in trying to replicate them exactly, I'm afraid they'll have to be close enough. I think once they're polished up and mounted they'll look pretty sharp.

They're not 8 lug wheels, just stock wheels and an attempt to replicate the one of a kind caps that were on this car.

  10. Hey Nads, awsome work! So nice to see you got a nice scissor stand so you don't have to paint on the trash can any more..(-; I mentioned it before, but have you had a chance to look into the '80s vintage wheel cover lock GM put on their Caddys, Olds and Buick with factory wire hub caps? I know they would allow you drive with these new lighter wheel covers without risk of loss. They are just a plate with a 3/8" nut in the middle that floats under three special lug nuts. Very simple. The last set I bought at a real wrecking yard was only $10 for 4.

Looking great, you are really going the extra mile. I think I saw a pair of those hub caps on Ben-Hur. Maybe it has been asked, but has GM or any former employees shown any interest in the car?

  17. Very admirable progress, Nadeem...I continue to be impressed by your attention to critical details. Really like how you're approaching this.

I worked my ass off today and with the help of my pal JT we got the bumper installed, there's no pictures because it's dark, I've been at it since 8 am.
I got two caps polished, not as well as I'd like, but I'm running out of time. I welded them to the original centers and I think they look pretty good.

  21. Nads, been following your progress since you started this thread. I'm amazed at all the thought that has gone into bringing the Caddy back. The car deserves you and you deserve to have a beauty such as this one. [IMG]

The caps look terrific! I think yours actually look better because they seem to have a deeper offset at the rim than the ones in the factory shot, which seem to stick out too far.

That "deeper offset" seems to be because the factory rims looks like they have 4 rings where Nads looks like there are only 3 rings.

Is that correct Nads or am I not seeing it correctly when comparing to 2 photos?

You are correct, the rings were cut the wrong size, my fault, I don't have time to have them made now, this will be rectified soon.

That's cool, yours looks awesome either way you go with it. I've been totally fascinated by all the work your doing to this car. I don't know if anyone else would have had the patience to do this right and so glad you do.
